205/40/17 VS-XX got these from Kaotic, on his car they looked great, so why not lol. Needs better lip, not liking the offset. 7" and 8" +47mm. With 20mm total hub and wheel spacer in the rear it's perfect flush. Gotta measure the front.

Hey everyone, I was hoping you guys could answer a question for me:

I have xxr 522 R16x7 +25offset

Like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/XXR-522-16-1...item43cc17d445

I want tires that wont stick out too much. I have tried on 205/50/16 but it sticks out a little too much, is it because of the offset?

Could someone tell me a good tire size to run that it wont poke too much. Thanks so much

-Alex

Generic hupcaps to which I gave to my aunt. Then I painted my steelies flat black. Then, I got free to me Yota hubcaps semi painted that I finished in flat black. All of those looks were, ehhh... But, to me, I wanted function first, then looks. I wanted to go V rated Michelin. My first thought was Pilot Sport A/S 3. But, there were lots of reports of them wearin out prematurely to their 45k warranty. Then, I looked at the Primacy. Nice, but, they are doing away with that tire (first in 15's, then in the 16's, at least in our sizes anyway). So, I went with the new Michelin Premier A/S. Those tires, as they age, develop sipes and the longitudal grooves grow wider. So, it channels water away used or worn, just as well as when new. Which, by yesterdays deluge, are just as good as those old water tires, displacement wise. The rims, man, I was torn, but always kept coming back to the Konig Feathers. I got the tires $619 from Ford, with a 70 dollar rebate, making them $549. I got the McGard wheel locks from Pep Boys $46 (shoulda went Amazon there prolly) and I used stock lug nuts on other 3 studs per wheel. And I got the Feathers, from DIscout Tire Direct, to where they were $426 with TPMS rebuild kit, to which I would recommend. Too, I installed them myself, road force balancing each tire, then proper placement of each (RFV values were a bit high, but, stiff tires they are LF 19, RF 18, RR 24, LR 34). In the beginning, I sold my wife's Camry 18" rims for a steal at $370, for stock pull offs from a 2008 Avalon, to help offset the costs. Now, I may just sell my steelies with Cooper tires to someone who needs em more than I do. I like the look. Whatdyall think ?

I'm posting this as a funny because I'm only halfway through my suspension process due to waiting on my fronts struts to arrive but here's how she looks as of 12/21/14 with only the rear lowered.

My setup is 16x7 +40 Konig Feathers with 205/50/16 tires on Tein S-Tech springs and Tokico Blues. I also added the TRD rear sway bar which is a significant improvement over stock handling. I'll be sure to post updated pics once I finish lowering the front. Overall very satisfied with the drop. Tein rates these at a 1.9" drop.

Here are the 5 different sets of rims I've had on the car in chronological order. This has taken longer than I wanted not upload

First are the OE steelies for baseline

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/12/b3125070e88d522b7c6dd0d7661492a2.jpg

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/12/d9759b5b3e411494ad2616daf57f7662.jpg

I hope you enjoy this post. It might not be as much of car porn as the rest of the posts but it is fun to share and document the different rims I've had. I'm sure the list will continue to grow as time rolls on

My car before when it was on a set of Corsa SXi 16" wheel

7J et 40 with 195/55/16 tyres all round

They worked fine for a bit, better than steels.

They did rub a bit on the inside at full lock but nothing serious.

Check this site out if you are thinking of buying alloys and want to know what
Wheel size, J size, et and tyre size to have. You can compare your wheels to what you are thinking of having on. This way you can measure and see if you need stretched tyre to get it under the arch.

I've left in my Corsa wheels and my new 9J wheel in for a comparison.

Hope the info helps.

Here it is before I put my wheels on.

I borrowed a set of Corsa SXi wheels, better than the steels.

For reference

7J et40 with 195/55/16 tyres.

They fitted fine but rubbed slightly on the inside under full turn lock.

I used this web site for checking what alloys fitted on my car.

Below is an example of my two wheels.

http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=195&aspect=55&diameter=16&wheelwidth=7&offset=40&width2=195&aspect2=55&diameter2=16&wheelwidth2=9&offset2=30#content

Hope the info helps you all out.

It depends what look are you going for. Are you looking at going the stanced route? If so, the 17x9 +25 setup will definitely poke out of the fender. The 17x8 +33 will also poke out but to a lesser degree. If you want the wheels to sit flush with the fenders then you will need a set of camber bolts / shims to dial-in some negative camber. Also, you will need to run stretched tires or do some fender rolling/pulling for clearance when going really low. Also, on most coilover setups for the Yaris, the rear will tend to not go low enough where you may need a set of shorter springs.

All nice rims n wheels, for the most part. Make sure to try and get a good tire, V or Z rated as they are sticky and grippy. The V should be sufficient. I was glad I did this morning 5:15 am, tight road, fallen tree around a bend in my lane, and a car and a full logging truck right at me simultaneous. I tried to stop, ABS kicked in, so swerved left (into oncoming traffic), then right and as I went right, I looked up at logs briefly, while making sure I didn't go off road to the right whilst turning back. So, Guardian Angel check, Michelin V rated Premiers, check. wOw. 12.5 hours later and I am happy to still be here. Some scratches from tree on right side, but, first look only three, and just scratches. Will look tomorrow when I catch my breath. Anyway, to reiterate my point, do not be cheap on tires when buying nice rims please. It does pay off sometimes. That and a guardian angel

hey guys. nice to see all the cool wheel setups on the thread here. checkout this web link from Asanti Wheels. http://asantiwheels.net/builders-2/. it allows you to build your own one of a kind custom rims and view them on your vehicle afterwards as well as letting you download a pic of the finished design on or off the car. thought you all might like this. worth mentioning, you'll need some serious bucks to actually buy them but still cool to play around with the endless possibilities. here's an example I did.

I wish I knew. They are lug centric vs all the hub centric wheels I'm used to buying so I don't have a lot of knowledge in the area. All the ships I go to say they have to throw a lot of weight on them to get them close but they never perfectly balance and I get a vibration from them. I guess I can't really complain for $200 retail wheels lol

I'm currently rocking 20% all around and have had zero issues with local police. From other local forums I've heard that it isn't an issue unless they pull you over for being a dbag and they want to nail you with something then they'll throw that into the mix of tickets.

That said apparently 35% up front will never get you a ticket. Our provincial law isn't based on a set percentage, more of a cops discretion sort of thing and 35% according to police is not a problem.

20% has the car cabin much cooler in the summer and blocks the rear headlight glare quite a bit. The only issue is reversing on non illuminated lots or streets. Just need to be super cautious of surroundings that's all, you can still see out back.

Colorado is a strict 27% on ALL windows. no metallic/mirrored film. no red or amber colored tint. the police have this little laser tester that they hold up to your glass for testing.
I have 15% all around, so does 200,000 other people. limos have lots of mirrored tint, so do Mexicans. I think it's a "secondary" law in this state, like seatbelts. you can't be pulled over for it, but it can be an add-on violation.
seriously, you can't get pulled over in Colorado for only seatbelt violation!
we also do not have a helmet law for motorcycles. only eye protection is needed.

I was told that the official legal limit in Ontario is 20% sides and rear with 0% on the front. I agree the cops really don't care that much, unless they've already pulled you for something else.

A buddy of mine did 30% on his BMW 540i, and IMO it now looks like a crack dealers car. I think you can sometimes go too far with this stuff. :-)

Sent from my LG-D801 using TapatalkI think you have the numbers backwards. The percentage is VLT (Visual Light Transmission), the amount of light that gets through. 70% is barely noticeable, below 30% makes it difficult to see into, below 20% can make night driving difficult. "Limo" tint is 5%.

Most places allow tint above a certain line on the windshield, usually a little more than the sun visors cover. Nowhere I'm aware of legally allows tint on the main part of the windshield, at all.

Maybe we need a "Please post pics of your Yaris with aftermarket window tint here" thread.

Maybe it's because here front windows and windshield ting are illegal, but whenever I drive to a town where people have tinted all around, I can't help but think they don't care about their own safety and basic driving courtesy. If I can't see if there's someone in the driver seat of a parked car that looks about to take off (front wheels aimed out), I have to decide wether to ignore it or to slow down/make room for a sudden move of the other car. I don't mind a little tint tho, just as long as I can see you when I'm wearing sunglasses myself, safety factor isn't compromised.

It's also a problem for cyclists, who can't tell if a driver waiting to pull out from a side street has seen them or not.

You can also take off your sunglasses at night. Can't do that with tint.

I didn't think about bicycles. they don't follow the rules anyway. they are always running stoplights and signs. i'm surprised more don't get run over. they shouldn't even be allowed on the roads without proper lanes for them, then they should pay a licensing tax and have plates to ride on those. I used to be a bike mechanic and commute by bike year round, only reason why I have a car now is because of my job requirement. I agree lots of people don't ride accordingly to the laws and common safety sense, but so are many drivers too who take driving very lightly as if having a car shields you from the outside world and other road users.

For myself, I do obey all laws and signs wether I'm driving or riding. Which gives me the right to actually criticize those who don't and that applies indiscriminately to all road users.

I understand the benefits of tint in very warm and dry areas and I'm not against it. Just as long as people don't over do it or for the look factor. I strive for everyone's safety on the road.

living in phoenix, i'm sure you can see the advantages of tint in the summertime...There are a lot of idiots on bikes. There are a lot of idiots in cars. I rode my bike to work for years. I follow all the rules. Get on a bike and ride down the road, and you'll be shocked at how bad some drivers are at looking where they're driving. On a bike, you have to be aware of what's going on all around you at all times, because not all the drivers follow the rules, and the consequences are a lot worse for the one on the bike.

I do appreciate tint here in Arizona, but unless you're using cheap dye tint (the kind that turns purple in a few years), darkness doesn't have much to do with heat rejection. Good, modern tints have coatings that block light in the UV and infrared spectrum, which is invisible, but it's where most of the heat comes from. 35% feels like a good middle ground to me.

Yes, more restrictions to people who want to use physical exercise as a means of transportation, just what is needed to send us back a few solid decades

Commute by bike for a few months, it will give you some insight and a full dimensional view of road use...and has the added benefit of becoming a better driver.

Sure some cyclists are arrogant asses, as are many drivers. But if you're going to be that guy that nit picks over a cyclists rolling a red or a stop sign when there is no car in sight on small side roads then you must also be that driver that makes sure they are going the exact speed as the speed limit, makes a complete stop at all lights and so on and so fourth. Oh and follow rules just for the sake of being a good rule follower even when it makes virtually no sense to.

I think it's time to tranfer this part of the thread over to the gen discussion. Poor OP cringing every time a new off topic post comes up:iono:

(someone might be hiding) rolling a stop sign is a 4 point ticket, same as doing 20 over the speed limit. I do ride my bicycle, but it's on the sidewalk to the bike trails. I never ride on highways or side roads because I know how hard cars are, and I don't want one to hit me so I am permanently damaged or dead. i'm not going to risk it because "i have the right of way." that's just arrogant and leads to dead. I think that will finish off the stance nicely. I don't know if its's the tires themselves or the width of the wheel but I do notice more wandering on some road surfaces. I haven't checked the speedo yet to see how much its off but the mpg has increased about 3 mpg, which I can't explain as I am coming from stock steelies and tires. I have noticed a little less pep due to the new increase in weight.

scratchpaddy

The difference in between stock and the 205/50R16 tires you put on is 0.5%. So (theoretically) your speedometer will read 0.3mph high at 60mph, and your mpg will be exaggerated by about 0.17mpg. So, not much.

^^^ When I changed my OEM 185/60/15's to 205/50/16's on my 2007, the MPG's dropped a bit as well, but the speedo was suddenly dead on. (The speedo was not accurate out of the box).

I initially installed Nitto NeoGens (which handled extremely well), but the car seemed to follow the uneven and scratched road surfaces at lower speeds and wandered terribly on the highway at higher speeds... even more so than with the OEM junk. So I began experimenting with tread patterns and found that lower speed tracking and higher speed wander could be reduced or completely eliminated depending on the tread pattern.

Just by looking at the left rear tyre on your car, I can see that the pattern is not one I would install on my Yaris; those tyres will tend to drive the car for you as you fight to maintain control.

Great info Kimona. I was a little afraid of that after I started driving it home. It's not horrible wander, but I definitely notice that I have to pay attention to what I'm doing. I'll keep the tires for a couple of years and then I'll need new tires again so I'll go a different route at that time. What type of tire works best with our cars? A softer directional? I chose these tires because I felt that they'd work best during our rainy season. I guess it's live and learn, but I'm completely satisfied with this car, if anything it's these little nuances that make it more interesting. Thanks again!

It was when I was living in Florida that I began experimenting with tyres. Here's what I found: avoid aggressive tread patterns and always look for a wide, continuous centre rib to improve straight-line tracking. Also, I understand that tyres with high silica content contribute to superior wet and dry handling.

kimona
03-11-2017, 10:26 PM
I've tried a bunch of different tyres, because I change my tyres often. Here are just a few examples.

The first is the Nitto, which was very noisy, not so comfortable, but had great handling. It had absolutely terrible straight-line tracking.
The second is a Zeetex, which offered a whisper quiet, comfortable ride, decent handling in dry and wet... and zero low/high speed wander!
The third is a Kumho which is a relatively quiet, comfortable tyre with very good overall handling in dry/wet conditions, and no low/high speed wander.

I'm probably weird, but I prefer the OEM styled wheels in your original picture. Are they 16" or 15"?

Instead I was looking into jacking it up, but turns out ground clearance never became an issue even with heavy cargo on snow roads.

When I did my wheels swap from winter tires on steelies to my summer on mags last week, I weighted each and my 15" summer tired with mags are 15kg while the winter 14" with steel rims are 13kg. There's about a 1.5" diameter difference between both, the 15" ones being taller. I reckon the mags are much heavier than the steel rims, as the 14" winter tires do have more meat than the 15" summer ones. Uneducated as I was, I always thought alloy mags would be lighter than steel rims, but apparently it's not always true. Make sure to weight you mags first if you think you'll save weight by ditching the steelies.

Did you (Vitz) weighted your new mags and compared them to the stock ones ?

lol no your not weired at all it's just your preference lol and the stock wheels are 16 inch.

oh ok i get you man!, no i didnt weight them to check the difference in between the two, whenever i am changing tires on the mags (which is not time soon lol) i will do a comparrison between the two or whenever i have some free time I get it done.

'96 Miata 14" mags for my winter tires. About 12lbs each, shaved 2-3lbs per wheel from my steelies which aren't that heavy to start with. About 28-29lbs per wheel now. Got the mags for $100, in great condition. I still prefer the 6 spoke classic look of my Sport Edition 15" mag on my summer wheels, but it's hard to find good looking 14" mags that don't give too much of a toy car look.

Looks good at stock height. Even with the 195/45R16 instead of the normal factory SE size 195/50R16 setup, the wheel gap looks normal/good. Most cars with over a 1" drop from factory default look like they have something broken to me though, so I could be biased. Of course, there are exceptions. The latest Corolla sedan has such crazy 'crossover' inspired wheel gap that you NEED the TRD lowering springs just to make the car look normal.
