yeah, well the way I understand it, the US didn't comply, so better luck next time. Win some, lose some.

In any event who gives a rat's @ss about something that (may have) happened 35 years ago?

Have you seen his movies, BTW? Holy cow

The guy is weird but brilliant at what he does. Or you could say he's brilliant at what he does but weird. Either way.

The first Polanski movie i ever saw was called either "the Window" or "the Apartment" . It was a modern Hitchcock like tale, in an urban environment. Boy, that movie scared me for a week

EDIT: it was "The Tenant" .

ugh.

You've got to be kidding! The facts are not in doubt or dispute. This man gave a 13 year old girl alcohol and Quaaludes, and forced himself on her orally, vaginally and anally. He was 43. You're OK with that?

Exactly.
Polanski is a low life a-hole who still deserves to be prosecuted!

No, I'm not but it's besides the point. the US had a chance to get him back, they blew it, next case!

I don't think what he did 35 years ago is relevant anymore, and certainly not an appropriate discussion topic for this audience.

So if you guys want to discuss the legal case, be my guest. Wanna discuss his movies, fine. Want to comment briefly that he was a weirdo, fine. Anything else, thread lightly, and I mean that

I completely agree.

We all know what he did - I don't care if it happened 100 years ago ... he deserves to fry for it. He's disgusting. He should man up and spend some time in the US prison system - they'll welcome in properly.

Here is the deal. I'm less worried about this guy (who will *never* set foot back in this country) than I am about a lot of people walking around freely, even after murdering people. They get a few years, if any, then parole, and out.

Yeah, the system is real fair.

You have a VERY good point there .... our system is jacked up. :/ I've spent 6 years total so far in school for Criminal Justice (lol and still don't have my degree ... haha) and learned very quickly about how jacked up our system is.

That goes to show you that the law needs to stick for some of the characters that are on our streets. I now in NY, people do get out on good behavior, then go on parole and repeat the same crime. If you commit murder, or do a homicide, rape, anything that has to do with harming a human being, should never see the light of day, thats my opinion. Hang um I say hang um.

@biglo: they don't have money to keep people in jail. Here in CA, they are considering releasing people early because they simply don't have enough room for everybody. Too many criminals and not enough jails. Yes, we could build more jails (with our tax money)

Roman Polanski would probably just pay a fine and go back where he came from, and we'd have to fly him here with security and everything

Have no illusions, the rich don't go to jail (rarely) so yeah, I don't see the point of expanding all those resources for something that happened so long ago, while people around here and shooting at each other and committing crimes every day and getting very little punishment for it, if any

that's enough out of me

Polanski may be a out, but closer to home ...

Another day in Detroit, and today we have an axe murder, and a 5 year old who got mauled to death by his parent's wolf hybrid dog.

There's crazy wherever you look.

By that reasoning, corrupt generals with a long history of war crimes that happened years ago should be freed (or at least not prosecuted) on the basis of their crime's longevity. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I do agree that certain current crimes should have a higher priority though. There's much to be done.

Yes. Much to be done.

Do you focus your energy on the child rapist from 35 years ago, or the axe murderer from today?

The girl (now woman) basically doesn't care any more (Google it), so how does that factor in? If the victim herself doesn't give a sh!t, should the rest of society?

Polanski is a piece of sh!t. No question. But at what point do we admit we are not going to be able to put him in US prison population? We want to put him in GP, but it won't ever happen. Let it go.

We all want to "school" Polanski the way he schooled that girl, but it will never happen. Accept it and move on.

Yes. Who is to say he won't do it again to another innocent child?

Again, I do agree that there are more pressing matters right now, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't do anything about it at some point. What sort of precedent would doing nothing make?
