I can see both sides.

After 35 years ... it would be fulfilling to see Polanski put in GP. He would get passed around like a joint.

The sad part is, it will never happen. He stayed in Europe all these years for a reason.

He will never return to the US. He will never face GP in the states. NEVER.

He got away with it. The US legal system could not get him after 35 years. It will never get him.

If you're comparing war crimes to Polanski's case, then I'm the one who's confused.

Ask yourself who would benefit if Polanski was tried again? The victim? Not really. She's made it known that she isn't really interested in reliving all that and exposing the whole sordid story to a new generation of people. So tell me if she doesn't care, what's the point of going through this anyway?

Put your pitchforks away, people. Game over.

Home arrest in Switzerland or freedom in many other countries?

What would you do?

I'll Swiss it out... if I had the choice.

If we boil things down:

RP is a child RAPIST. He drugged her and did the whole menu on her while she was unconscious.

If you rape a 13 yr old girl and get put in GP here, you may not live...

I see. So it's OK for Polanski to do it, as long as not too many people are directly affected? When does one draw that line?

Child abuse doesn't stop at sex. But even if it did, there are plenty of people at his age with an active sexual lifestyle (ever heard of viagra? ).

I can't believe you just said this.

You know, this is exactly why I didn't think this was an appropriate topic for this group of people, no offense.

I think the only reason people are interested in this is because it's high profile.

You're so wrapped up in your ideals, in what you think is right and/ or wrong... what you think you understand ...
I apologize if I said something that upset you. That was not my intention at all.

However, I do stand by what I said before. I also believe the fact that he has been roaming free all these years actually makes this even more important in the eyes of some people.

Everyone has an opinion about everything, and it should be treated as such. Getting angry at an idea is not very productive at all.

P.S.: If we aren't "wrapped in our ideals, or what we think is right and/or wrong", then what are we doing with our lives exactly?

I assume all of you have read the whole case file?

I'm not getting angry at an idea, I'm getting angry at the mob mentality and the lack of perspective on this whole thing.

You forgot about the victim's right in all that. Are you so wrapped up in wanting to do "the right thing" that you're gonna bulldoze your way trough it? Just curious.

Released or not, he will burn in some kind of Hell eventually. IMO he's not getting away with it, but instead just a delay (and at age 76 it won't be too long of a delay).

But still, The Pianist: brilliant film!

Tomato, you're right that this isn't really a great topic for discussion on a Yaris enthusiasts' forum, so I won't press the matter further, but I believe you're firmly in the wrong in the position you've taken.

I dunno - I have a 6 year old daughter - and I wouldn't want RP ever to be forgotten - I don't care if RP wishes we all forget it so he can go to sleep each night with his Oscar - and I don't care if the girl in the story is a forgiving Hawaiian housewife with kids of her own and that she wants to move on - it should not have happened

Agreed. Weird/sick but brilliant. Repulsion was a sweet movie. I've seen it 3 or 4 times.

What happened was very unfortunate, and I'm suddenly reminded of something my grandfather use to say..."A stiff d*ck has no conscience."
