Use the money on modifying your sedan. After a few months you'll be OK.

OK... first off, the Hatch has about 3 times as much usable cargo area. For anybody who disagrees, I ask of you, How many pallets have you fit in your sedan? How many bale's of hay, how many full sized mountain bikes, How many entertainment centers & desks?

In my hatch i've carried a
Pier 1 Desk that measured roughly 40x66x24
70lb bale of hay
two pallets at the same time
two full sized mountain bikes (GT + Cannondale)
32" LCD

i am always amazed at how much the sedan can carry once you fold the rear seats down flat.... I don't understand why anybody would want to buy the sedan. The Hatch is like driving around with a tiny truck bed.

It all depends on what you'll be carrying in your car. I agree, the LB is better if you need to bring big crap; however, I carry around people and luggage. So, I needed the rear seats plus a bigger trunk.

I was able to move a good amount of a large master bedroom (nothing big, but lots of boxes and stuff). I've carried a large cooler and some boxes with two additional people. I've fit a ladder, snowboards, etc while having my sub in the back. lol. Don't ask me to carry a bike or a big screen tv tho.

i'd say stick with the sedan for a few months before considering trading in.

Toms River- my home town!

I drive an '08 sedan and really like it. My wife drives a '10 3 door and we both really like it. Except- we will always take the sedan in highways simply because it handles better in windy conditions (drove my car across the Verazano bridge in high winds recently).

As others have said- you will take a hit- only question is how much. Gateway Toyota is infamous for selling lots of useless add ons the jack the price up.

I don't know why you are asking for advice. It sounds like your mind is already made up. In the fall you might really want a 2011 after getting your HB. The real issue is if you can be happy with anything for the long term.

I have an Expedition, 5x8 utility trailer and a 6x12 V-nose enclosed trailer for the good stuff. Well, you asked!

Oh yeah, trying to trade your car in now? FOOLISH! Way too many little 4-cylinder cars were sold last year well under MSRP due to rebates and the CARS program. The dealer will use that against you (even though the dealer still gets paid the monies) and you will get "pennies on the dollar" for your trade. Besides, the 3-door hatch looks ridiculous, like a big RC car.

ill just be blunt. trading in a car after a few months of ownership is perhaps one of the stupidest financial decisions a person could possibly make.

you should just suck it up and learn to like something about what you have got. someone else cosigned on this car for you, and i think they would also be foolish to go along with this trade, which will cause you to owe a fair amount more than the new car will be worth. keep driving the sedan for a few years, then trade it in on something (or sell it yourself). in 5 years there are going to be lots of interesting choices in the small car segment.

After the test drive write down things that you like and dislike with the lift back and compare it to the things that you like and dislike with the sedan. After you test drive the lift back you may find that you like the ride quality of the sedan a lot better.
To OP: This is a very good idea. I'd say it's a safe assumption that you liked something about the sedan because you bought that over the LB originally. What's to say you won't change your mind again in the near future as your circumstances change? Kids is not the only reason for wanting access to the rear seats more easily. Friends, perhaps?

Weigh the pros and cons of both vehicles and how that applies to current and possible future circumstances in your life before putting yourself into a seriously bad financial situation. Unless you magically win the lottery, left a huge monetary gift from a deceased relative, or you obtain an extremely high paying job, it's really hard to get out of debt once you're there. I speak from experience. You take 2 steps forward, just to have something else pop up, causing you to take 3 steps back.

Hope this helps!!

I would have to highly disagree with you on this statement, RuffStuff. The LB is identifiable on the roadway or in a parking lot, whereas the sedan just blends in with the crowd (the only way I can tell it's a Yaris sedan is by seeing the badging on the ass).

I love my LB for it's uniqueness. It's obviously different from all the sedans on the road, but it's also very different from all other subcompact LB's on the road as well.

This is interesting because you appear so passionate about the liftback but you bought a sedan. Can I assume that was what was on the lot at the time? As stated previously...it would be a disaster to trade the car in now, quite possibly the worst financial decision you could make to really gain - nothing. These are cool little cars but man...they are commuter econocars. To get turned upside down by many thousands of dollars would be counter-intuitive to what the car stands for. I say keep the sedan, learn to like what you have and if you really don't want or like it, trade it in around the 2 year mark. I believe that you be your best economy of scale (and that is selling on the private market).

Really? I think the sedan also clearly stands out from the crowd... especially if the view you have of it includes the front end.

Anyway, I really like my sedan, but I also really like the hatchbacks... both the 3-door and 5-door. They're different, but they're similar enough that I agree with Toyota's decision to call them all "Yaris" here.

The sedan looks like nothing else on the road. It's closest styling comparison is the Corolla and Camry and even they look completely different never mind the size differences.

To the OP, I'd say keep the sedan. They're better.

If you have spare cash, and it seems that you do considering you're willing to trade at such a loss, use it for mods. Get a body kit and a nice set of wheels and a drop and throw on a rear spoiler. You'll be glad as hell that you bought a sedan.

Life's too short to drive a car you don't like, trade your sedan for the better Yaris!

OP. Tell us again really specifically why you want a liftback again? I'd be curious to see your pros and cons for each style.

Ultimately, the heart wants what the heart wants, so if you really want it that bad, go for it. However, I would highly recommend that you spend some time test driving one just to be sure before you order it.

People think the difference between the Yaris Sedan and the LB is only cosmetic, but it's really a different car.

I LOVE hatchbacks myself, and haven't owned anything else for a lot of years and would not consider a sedan. On the other hand, I've never exactly hated a car. I was too happy to have wheels to take me places, and believe me, I've driven some rust buckets back in my younger days ! ;) How can you hate a car?!! What's that poor thing done to you, lol?

Ok.....
One must be happy with and somewhat passionate about a car, otherwise what is the point etc?

Having said that, have you considered selling it privately? It should be a quick sell with super low mileage and with the warantee still intact.

You will still loose money but, not as much as trading it in.
