What's with all this hating from both sides? Both the sedan and the LB are great cars with separate entities. I don't know why Toyota decided to call the sedan a Yaris for. But anyway, stop with the hating, from both sides.

After some reconsideration and weighing pros and cons, I will stick with the Sedan. I'm going to suck it up and love my car! Maybe from two years from now, I'll be selling my car to pay it off to get a diff model.
Ever since I joined this website, I've been looking at members cars and my eyes were physically attracted to the liftbacks more than the sedans. That was the main cause why I was thinking of switching models.

I should just lease. lol

Thank you guys for your advice and input.

In my hatch i've carried a

70lb bale of hay
two pallets at the same time
two full sized mountain bikes (GT + Cannondale)
32" LCD

i am always amazed at how much the sedan can carry once you fold the rear seats down flat.... I don't understand why anybody would want to buy the sedan. The Hatch is like driving around with a tiny truck bed.
Ive carried a 36 inch lcd in my car before also fit a large mountain bike in the trunk. Did require removing of the wheel though.

Oh, I always remove the wheel when I transport my mtn bike in the back of my car, but it takes seconds.

smart move. besides, in 2 years (??) a new yaris model will be out and you know you will be looking at that. by going the route you have chosen you will be in a better position at that time.

I hate to say it but you could have had the best of both worlds if you had gotten the 5 door hatchback. I have the 3 door hatch and I love it but I am a station wagon gal at heart and would really like the 5 door. I just sold my PT Cruiser which is the 5 door hatch and I miss the back doors. Maybe that was a factor when you purchased your sedan. If you were going to haul people then that would be the best way to go. I don't have kids to haul anymore so it really didn't matter. If I have something too big to put in the very back, I just push the seat forward and I have plenty of room.

A nice thing about the sedan is that a big trunk full of stuff doesn't cut into your passenger space.

what if I Trade it in and then get a certified pre owned liftback valued at $13k. My trade in value for my 2010 would be about $13k--modest estimate.
I would owe less than what I currently owe?

one thing i like about my sedan that beats the hatchback on is the RPM meter, hatch doesn't come with it, only the sedan does stock =P. Otherwise if i can go back in time I would pick the sedan still....but in manual

Yeah, in a way I wish the sedan was named "Vios" in the US. I like "Yaris" as well, but the distinction between the two models would be nice. "Belta" definitely wouldn't have worked in the US. It's a lousy sounding name. Economically for Toyota, it was necessary to market the two together. It costs a ton of money for each individual model name a company markets.

Honestly, I've wondered about this a little too. My car is paid off though. But just wondering how dealers would react to essentially an even trade, or possibly even a scenario where my trade-in value is slightly higher than their asking price (in the case of used hatchbacks, for example). Or in the case of new cars, wondering how open they would be to negotiating close to my trade-in value. I'm nowhere near actually doing this, but it has floated around in my head sometimes...

Quoted for truth.. On the Toyota's website Bayou Blue looks like a sky blue color but in reality it's quite a dark color.. I was glad the salesguy showed me the color chart before ordering it. I brought in a copy of the Yaris I built on Toyota's website and the Bayou Blue color was so totally different I was shocked.

In the end, after a lot of consideration, I ended up ordering it anyway, but certainly, nothing sucks more than not getting what you think you're getting.. A little disappointed toyota doesn't offer a lighter blue colored Yaris, but oh well..

Absolutely AGREE!!! Personally I found the visibility of the Liftback wasn't quite as good as the Sedan and it made me a little more nervous when moving into the left lane and merging into traffic.. I found myself looking through the mirror and struggling to get a good view of the blindspot without the driver's headrest getting in the way..

But eventually I got over it.. I couldn't quite put my finger on why the LB had less visibility, perhaps a bigger blind spot or something, or maybe it's just my imagination.. But definitely I still find merging left to be much more awkward than the sedans that I've been driving all my life. With a sedan, it's more of a quick glance to check the blindspot and in my hatch I do more of a glance + lean forward to make sure there's no motorcycles or something there.

Edit:

Definitely if I was this guy looking to trade in the brand new sedan.. I wouldn't do that.. I'd give the sedan to a family member and have THEM trade in their old car for a hatchback and then take THAT new car..

I agree with everybody who says trading in a brand new car is a very bad idea.. Give it to a family member, take their old car, and trade that in for a hatch..

I can see it now... The first time somebody says his yellow hatchback looks like a giant twinkie on wheels, he'll take it back to the dealer the next day..

I like the LB and the Sedan, I went for the Sedan because I have a kid and when I got mine there was no 5 door LB.
