What do you think of the new Facebook look?

Facebook is going to be rolling out major UI changes. Some of them are already live (like the activity feeds are now showing on the right of the main feed). Some are yet to come.

So what do you all think about those changes on Facebook? Like it? hate it? Going to Google Plus?

(and BTW no, the changes did not include a dislike button hehehe )

if anyone is interested, here is the entire keynote:

http://mashable.com/2011/09/22/facebook-f8-live-video/

Warning: it's LONG (about an hour and a half!)

To quote my wall post: "Not feeling the FB guys frequently changing things up here. If something is working just fine, then why not just leave it the fuck alone?!"

If they wanna make a realistic impact, they should go all out to tighten security measures (my profile's been hacked twice already this year).

hacked?!!! Sorry to hear that! That must s8ck big time. I have set up some security measures on mine (it tells me when I try to log in from an "unknown" device) and I've tightened up my privacy settings some (that's the hardest part, though, because when they make tweaks to the UI, sometimes you have to reset stuff back the way you want, but I've never been hacked, knock on wood. How did you get your account back?!! (if you can say publicly, of course) That must be a pain in the arse :(

As to leaving the interface alone, I don't think that will happen.

Mark Zuckerberg said in his keynote that he looked up to a company like Intel because every year, Intel has a goal, in essence to outdo what they were doing the year before (I paraphrase but that was the gist of it). So it looks like they're constantly going to change the interface, and make "improvements" as a matter of goal.

I guess if they didn't, the interface would become stale and people would get tired of it.

I'm afraid so. But you can't entirely blame Facebook for that, though.

Although their " Timeline" is a little scary, if you think about it.

Do you think Google Plus is more private?

What makes G+ better for you?

(I have a G+ account too, just curious about your opinions )

I'm glad you were one of the lucky ones. But my account has been stable since then so no worries because I took care of it myself. And I'll just say that the first hack was resolved quickly. Hacker was a guy at school that I had a class with the semester before, and for some reason decided to post his doing on my wall and hence give me a back-reference. I had a little talk with him face-to-face and got an honest apology from him, which I very much appreciated (but I had no intention of making him look like he was about shit his pants, because I'm not a bully (still kinda funny though, I'm sorry lol)). The second one prompted me to visit my profile once a day and change my password at different times. Best to stay one step ahead of the risk by checking-in more frequently and looking for things that don't look right. That's all we can do until Marky gets a clue. Everything's fine otherwise

You have more control with circles and privacy settings for each item that you post be it text, pics, or video. I haven't noticed G+ being anywhere close to as invasive or pervasive. Case in point would be the new stalker scroller and the fact that for example with the new FB people will know who unfriended them and when, etc. You should have the right to keep that private to protect you and possibly help avoid conflicts. That who thing of if you decide to put parts of your life on the internet means that you internationalize your life if complete bullshit. For those that say that then I say that all banks and other institutions should decrypt all PII to include SSNs, DOBs, and account numbers...then let's hear them sing the same tune.

I personally am a huge fan of Google and many of its products, but this alleged statement from former Google's CEO Eric Schmidt

https://plus.google.com/117378076401...ts/2y7vqXBtLny

saying in essence that G+ is "an identity service " is giving me pause.

A lot of people like to say that FB is evil, and maybe it is. But there is (was?) some advantage with FB. You can truly tighten up your privacy settings so that what you post on FB is only visible on FB, even your profile, not on the Internet as a whole. And you can tighten the profile as well, even on FB, so that only some of your friends know what you broadcast, not all. So it's very similar to circles.

Many people did not use the list feature on facebook http://mashable.com/2009/10/09/creat...-friend-lists/ which basically allowed you to restrict who saw what, depending on which list you put your friends in, but it's there, has been there for a couple of years at least.

G+ is doing something pretty similar with circles, but parts of your G+ profile is always public. And we don't know what G+ is going to do in the future either, but right now, when you +1 something, it's public on the web (unlike when you like something on FB, only your FB friends can see that, if you've set your privacy settings that way).

Both platforms are changing but it's good to go into these things fully aware ...
