So I was looking for the oldest thread in the forums. Looks like this is it (#2). Five $ says the first one was made by a moderator and had some sort of word or phrase involving the letters t-e-s-t and was deleted shortly therafter lol.

But anyway, I never posted in a "welcome" thread, So yeah, better late than never. Hi all!

Howdy, i'm new to the yaris... and 4 cylinders. Going from 532 Hp to 100 something is a big change. However, my $20 dollar fill up still has me smiling  So, hello to all and hopefully I will come to appreciate this vehicle as much as I did my chevy.

Had the car for less than a week and I love it. Way peppier than I thought it would be (so glad I got the MT) and people have been complimenting me left and right on its cute, funky looks, nice color and brilliant fuel economy.

I just can't wait until I've fully broken in the engine so I can take it out on the freeway and go 80.

What's up everyone. Jimmy here. First time posting been a long time listener, so to speak. Been a Vitz fan since the Gran Turismo days, glad to see it come to the US. I've owned mostly hondas and sad to see that they got rid of light hatchbacks. I've had the yaris almost a year now. I'm located in Central Arkansas. Enough rambling I suppose.

Hi, Everyone!

I've been posting in these forums for about a month now, but I am just now getting around to making my introductory post here in the "New to Yaris" forum.

My name is Tom, and I will be 60 years old in a couple months. I'm an old married guy with two grown kids and two little granddaughters, ages 5 and 3. I live in western Kentucky.

I bought my 2009 Yaris Sedan in Flint Mica on April 13, 2009. My son had bought a 2009 Yaris Sedan in Barcelona Red Metallic four weeks earlier, and I loved his car so much that I had to buy one for myself.

I am enjoying the car very much, and I have no regrets about the purchase. I took a big beating on my trade-in, a 2008 Chevy Cobalt, but that is the price I had to pay in order to get into a Yaris.

I am trying to install aftermarket Audiovox CCS-100 cruise control on my Echo 2001.Instructions are general, and I can not locate wires for VSS
(vehicle speed sensor) and tachometer connections. I spent over 16 hrs trying without success.I was researching online and was not able to find.
Please if someone knows this info, it would be greatly appreciated!
here is the manual instruction enclosed:

Also, I have one more question: Do I need to install additional vacuum canister in order to get this thing working?
Thank you for reading and help!

Welcome. If you can't find someone who has a copy of the electrical wiring diagrams for the 2001 Echo, I highly recommend a two day subscription to Toyota's TIS. The two day subscription is $15 and gives you full access to all technical documents and EWDs.

Tach Wire: LOCATION 7- DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR AT BOTTOM OF DASH BOTTOM ROW FAR LEFT OF CONNECTOR
Tach Signal Wire Color: BLACK

Hello everyone,
Bought my Yaris 2 1/2 weeks ago and found this site and love it. The car will eventually be driven by my fiancee. I have already upgraded the stereo, added new rims, rear hatch spoiler and armrest. Am greatful for everyone that posts their how-to's - saved a lot of time figuring out how to take door panels and dash apart.

Hi Everybody...
We just got a 2 door hatchback. Only the second day so we are still walking on air and enjoying making all those discoveries of things we didn't know about our wonderful Yaris.
The car reviews seemed to favor the Honda Fit, but the Yaris is a much better fit for us. We love the looks, the economy, the thoughtful design, and most of all... it's so fun to drive.

Welcome to YarisWorld. Good color choice! Actually, it took me a while to get used to it.

I wish I could say it was a choice--it was the only one available! I was sort of on an emergency buying spree--my old car died, and I went to one of those mass credit union/dealer car sales and there was my Yaris! I was drawn to it immediately. I will say that I absolutely love the color and I'm glad that's what was available. I've been having a blast with this little car so far!

I also started a few mods base on the info I gathered here and with Garm help at Micro Image. Hope to put a few more hp under the bonnet (hood) for here in Jamaica we can use it, cops just don't care about speeding in fact over taking a cop is a common practice along with street racing.

I just bought an 08 Yaris S Sedan. It has 17,500 miles. So far, I like it a lot. I traded in an 08 Civic to lower my car payments.

I'm very impressed with this car. It's a lot of fun to drive.

Here are a couple of pics from the dealership.

Looking forward to many fun miles.

Hi all,

I've wanted a hatchback for years and while researching all the different makes the Yaris really caught my eye. Driving one sealed the deal. I think these are great looking, innovative, fun to drive (and let's not forget efficient!) little cars! I bought a 2009 5 Dr Lift in Meteorite Metallic with Auto and the power package on 5/21. I like it more with each passing day.

Fantastic forum here! Thanks so much for all the great information. I've learned alot about the Yaris so far and look forward to more!

Thought I'd say hi.

I bought an '09 Yaris (3-Door Liftback) that my son will drive. After getting a few chances to drive it, I sold my '07 MINI and bought a Yaris for myself!!!!

Yup...now we have two! In some ways I think the Yaris is more of a Mini than the MINI. BMW has taken a certain direction w/ the car....that's fine...but they risk leaving something behind. To me the Yaris recaptures much of that. I am a big fan!!!

That is the perfect description of the Yaris - "escape pod", it looks like one, and when you drive home from work it is a great feeling taking it thru the winding roads making it out to my county home. It never feels like an econobox, with the trd suspension it is a special car.

Hi guys and gals -

My name is Clark and I am the proud owner of a 2009 Polar White 3dr Hatch Type S with manual transmission and just about every single TRD option or accessory. Heck even the license plate reads MINI TRD.

Some of you may know my old scion tC - TRD TC (http://carsponsors.com/trdtc (http://carsponsors.com/trdtc)) from various car shows, Scikotics events, or cruises. Well, a deer along Sunrise Blvd shortened its life (http://rcinfo.us/cia/mods (http://rcinfo.us/cia/mods)) and now I have a Yaris to replace it.

I'll post pics soon.

I own a 2009 Yaris purchased in April. I'm happy with it except for the steering wheel, which was apparently designed for the vertically challenged. I'm being treated unfairly and it's really pissing me off.

Checking in--
Took delivery of a 3 ddr HB 4 days ago and am looking forward to the new car experience. The federal cash for clunkers program got me into the Yaris, I traded in an old work van. However the Yaris will be replacing my 98 Metro which has been my commute car for years.

The Metro will be a hard act for the Yaris to follow, but I believe it will do well.

Hello folks... NEW HERE!

I just bought a 08 Yaris.. and here is why..

I am a field tech for a rather large financial company. It sometimes requires me to drive 100 to 250 miles in a single day (typically DFW and the surrounding cities) Needless to say driving is a BIG portion of my day. This is the reason why there were 219K miles on the car. You see, the wife and I swapped our cars in 06 when I moved my office from the cube to a car. There were 147Kmiles on it when I started driving it. Thank goodness all those miles are a tax write off. Since it was paid for, and it still got 25MPG I was fine.. No AC pealed it though. Finally got tired of driving the Texas heat with no AC. (2 years of perspiration caked in the seat back of my old 98 Altima to show for it) That car had over 219K miles on it.. went through 3 sets of tires in 3 years, replaces all kinds of parts.. Finally it came time to put the car to rest. The repair bill was gonna cost me alot! (AC replacment, replacing the brake system and several other parts..)

So 3 weeks ago I cleaned out the old bucket of bolts and drove to Carmax. We picked up a Black 2008 Toyota Yaris liftback with a little under 25K miles. Best money I ever spent.. (or am spending)

I have only had to fill the tank 3 times so far.. (granted its been a slow 2 weeks for work) I have figured up I am getting 37MPG on the highway. Since my company reemburses a certain amount of money back per mile(as regulated by the IRS) I am able to pay the car payment/insurance/gas/maintenance and still pocket 20% of the return. I must say its alot nicer when you have no car payment but... I can't have everything right

One more thing. I am 6'6 and I have head room! I have leg room!.. The car is just slightly bigger than a golf cart!.. and I am saving a ton of money. Its small.. And my family sings the clown song when they seem me get in and out of it.. (you the one that you might imagine hearing while watching a bunch of clowns getting in or out of a VW BUG)
Best car I have purchased thus far..(no matter how funny I may look driving it)

I saw a couple of discussions/mention of hypermiling and decided to look it up.. I am wondering if I can save anymore by following the suggestions on that site.

I've always been told..
"If you can drive a standard...You can drive anything"

Don't listen to those that say... "If you can't find it... grind it"

Its a figure of speech.. Not a rule. :eyebulge:

Driving standard is easy once you get the hang of it.... one of two things will happen. Either you will peel out,, or kill it.. Just don't do either in bumper to bumper traffic...

Good luck!

Hello all,

Tomorrow, I will purchase a 5-speed '08 Yaris 'S' 3dr Liftback in metallic meteorite. I don't even know how to drive a stick yet, but I'm sure I will learn in no time. :-)

I've been driving stick for many years. I do have to say that the Yaris
accelerator takes a little getting used to. So, I am not sure what to tell
you about learning to drive stick on a Yaris. It's a little lighter touch than
my old Geo Metro, and that was rather light.

But, I have to say, as I have been posting lately..... Welcome to the forums
and best color choice! :w00t:

Joining a forum was on my list of things to do..

I have been forum hopping for years.. mostly for support questions on various products (games, computers networking, barbeque secrets.. etc)

It is my belief that no matter the problem you are having.. Somebody has had it and solved it... Sometimes the hardest questions are already answered and if not you can always ask the community.

Hi, first post here. I will hopefully be the owner of Yaris shortly. Having owned 7 cars in the past 8 years, I feel I have grown up a lot and my tastes have changed. I need something practical, not as prone to theft as the several Hondas I've owned, reliable, and fun. Lurking on this forum has opened my eyes/mind to considering and now wanting one of these cars.

I have always liked the styling of the vehicle, and am quite intrigued by the aftermarket. My current dd is a '00 Civic hatchback with an Apex'i/custom turbo setup we built in '05....the car has been broken into twice and hit by a drunk driver. I pretty much gave up on cars for a while, but now having since graduated college and forging a career, I would like a new car (project )

The plan is to patiently wait for the right car to come along (hatchback) and purchase the Blitz supercharger. I am quite intrigued by the PE kit in the for sale forum, and would jump on that opportunity, but am somewhat apprehensive as there is not much support/troubleshooting that I have found. I do however prefer the centrifugal supercharger in the PE kit to the roots type, but don't feel I have enough experience to tackle a project such as that.

Anyway, sorry to rant. Just wanted to give a little background and continue to learn a lot on this forum.

We got a 3dr Hatch on a "cash for clunkers" deal. The first tankfull gave 40.5mpg. Not bad since it is much peppier than I thought it would be. My wife drives it to work (50mi each way). Only problem was a buzz in the R speaker. The dealer replaced it - no problem.

Hey everyone!

Just bought a 2010 Yaris Liftback last night and I'm super excited. After getting rear-ended in my previous car (1996 Nissan 200SX) and having insurance telling me it was a complete loss I began the search for a compact car. I test drove the Honda Fit, smart car fortwo, Nissan Versa and Nissan Cube but liked the Yaris the best.

Looking forward to learning about my new car from you guys!

HELLO EVERYONE !

Im not a Yaris owner yet, but Im hoping to buy one as soon as the 2010's hit the showrooms . Im located on Long Island, ny .(suffolk county) I read that the 2010's have stability and tracking -control as standard. and the price will only be 150. more !
My fav colors are; jade , blazing blue pearl, and red (carmine red).
Does anyone know when they will start arriving in stock ? I cant get an answer from any of my local dealerships . Thats probably because they want to sell out of their remaining stock of 2009 corollas and camrys first.

Hey people. I've just bought my first car :D
It's quite an old yaris (2000) but I'm liking it. A bit nervous about some of the noises it makes but dad assures me that its fine.

Does anyone have a guide or tutorial on how to use the instrument panel? The only buttons I've touched are the FM and CD buttons. All the other bits I'm not sure what they do.

Check to make sure you don't have 2 oil filter gaskets. Sometimes the gasket stays behind and if the oil changer doesn't notice it, it will eventually cause a serious leak.

hey all,
am pretty damn happy with my '01 1.3 RS, ex-Japan. It's not exactly quick, but it's fun-as-hell to drive and economical and should be Toyota-reliable, that's not a bad combination.
Interesting how many people here just LOVE their Yarises (should that be "Yari"?).
Whoever owned my car in Japan put 16x7.5 wheels on it with +35 offset, which don't fit, so it's rubbin' like a schoolboy. Am looking for some 16x7+40 wheels, or maybe 15" instead. Looking forward to adding a couple of cheap mods like the crank pulley as well.
anyway - be good to yourselves.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a wonderous Black Friday. I just wanted to introduce myself. I own a 2010 3 door lift/hatch back Meteorite Metallic w/ auto trans and power package. The only thing I'm going to change to the car are: center console from MicroImage and some tinting from I-don't-know-where, yet, here in The Villages/Lady Lake, Florida and do a DIY a/c filter - damn thing wasn't included with the car.

Hey guys, new Yaris owner checking in from the Great White North. Just picked up my 2010 5-door on Monday and absolutely love it. I really wanted a white one but the dealer never had any in stock and I couldn't wait for them to order one in since I needed it to get around.

Even though I only got it two days ago I've been lurking here for a week or so. Lot of very nice cars here, nice work.

After looking at all the cars here you can really see the potential of these cars from a customization point of view. Unfortunately, I bought this car purely as a "winter beater" as my regular car doesn't like snow . Its a 1993 240sx, and it, along with my motorcycles, will be getting all the mod money :frown:, so the Yaris is going to have to stay stock. I'm sure it will still be fun though.

Here are a couple of pics:

Hey Guys/Gals. This is a cool site.:D Belong to lots of fishing boards, but the auto ones are new to me. Drive a 2007 Coupe with 122000 miles on it and just do basic maint to it,change oil every 5000,rotate tires every 10,000(now,I learned the hard way).Basically I went by the manual. Now im looking for the 120 maint how toos. This is how I fell onto this site. Enjoy your posts. Class act site!
BTW I also drive a 2006 Taco 4door Sport which is my beach buggy and maintain that in awesome shape as well. Actually thats my wifes. LOL

Talk to ya's soon.

I suppose I can post here. I'm currently a owner of a '98 Honda CRV.. After long decision and test driving, I've decided a Yaris is what I want. Aiming for a 5-door lb, but will get a 3 door. Just pushing the tranny in the crv as long as i can to save up as much money. I'm not financing, cash is how I'm paying. So once I make my purchase, I will post it =] Until then I will linger and post and learn about my next car. Hopefully I will have mine by April

I hear you on that one. My 240sx is white and gets dirty. However, whilte cars looks so good when clean, makes up for when they are dirty  Especially the Yaris, looks great in white.

Hey everybody. New to the site. I'm already an active user of 9thgencorolla.com with the same username.

I'm a proud owner of a silver '08 Corolla S. Mods so far include 35% tints all around, 8000K HIDs, 2600k Noyka Hyper Yellow fogs, 2nd gen Altis LED tails, and DC front strut bar. I have skunk2 springs which will drop it 2" f/r, Weapon*R Secret Weapon SRI, and a Progress rear sway bar which will get installed in a couple of weeks when I put new pads/rotors. I also have tc wheels, but am waiting for spring to install them (I gotta buy tires first).

Also bought a white '07 Yaris 4dr last month after my '95 Grand Cherokee finally died. My wife is the primary driver of this car so I'm not really looking to do much. This car I bought used and it had 15" Akuza wheels, which surprisingly look VERY nice with the car, not like others who wanna put huge rims and therefore make their car look like crap. Only things I'm thinking of doing on this car is springs/tints/HIDs.
