G'Day! Yaris from Canberra, Australia here, had it just a year now.

I bought a Toyota Yaris sedan today with a manual transmission. After owning two S2000s and a 350Z, the Yaris isn't all that incredible to drive, but I do enjoy it. I recently lost a pretty decent paying job and eventually ended up applying for and being hired as a Domino's driver. With money being so tight for me, I decided it was time to step away from sports cars for a while, especially since I was breaking the bank just to pay for the S2000 CR, all while attending college.
After testing driving several different economy cars, I settled for the Yaris because it just seemed like an attractive buy. The monthly payment is affordable even with me making hardly anything; the fuel economy is terrific; and I actually find it to be a fun-to-drive vehicle. Plus, Toyota reliability is always welcome! :)
I'll post up pics of it soon. I'm actually taking delivery of it tomorrow. It's a 2009 Toyota Yaris sedan with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Glad to see theres a forum for the Yaris. I just purchased a 2010 Sedan with 359mi. for $13,490. Ive been a member of a motorcycle forum for years and the swapping of info is priceless. The motorcycle forum has more info than the dealers. Hoping for good things from this Yaris forum as well. I have already had some questions answered just browsing around.

Unfortunately, due to monetary issues I am still saving up for a Yaris. But I am completely set on a 5-door LB. So, I wanted to join a site where I can learn as much as possible and interact with people who own these amazing little cars.

The latest Vitz from Japan looks really nice especially the RS version.
They have made the interior look better than the previous version.

Great improvement but did not see the Turbo version...

Hi Tim,

I like the "Drives Little Cars". I still miss my 1987 Subaru Justy. I always got at least 40 MPG, even when pushing it hard. I had to retire it at 130,000 miles when I was rear ended by a truck and pushed into the car in front of me. I still drove it for a couple weeks until the insurance company gave me $50.00 for it. It was full of rust holes with duct tape bandages over them. I still wish I paid them with $50.00 they wanted for me to keep it. The rear hatch wouldn't open, but it was still legal as none of the lights were hit.

A shame SUBARU hasn't re-introduced the JUSTY to this market  . We would highly consider one .

This is the closet thing to a JUSTY , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daihatsu_Tanto_Exe . Not sure what to make of it .

rick996
02-04-2011, 03:06 PM
This is no Justy. I had a 65 HP 1.2 liter straight 3 and it was very peppy. My favorite story: I was at a stoplight with two lanes. I was in the right lane which went straight when a young guy on a crotch rocket came up beside me in the left lane which was left turn only. I just knew he was going straight and figured my Justy would be no problem. Young guys on crotch rockets aren't that good. I raced motorcycles for years and knew more about what he was doing and he did. When the light turned green he got ahead of me. I wasn't even trying yet. He noticed I wasn't trying and didn't push it. I stayed in second gear and slowly left the revs buildup. When he up shifted I punched it. He realized what I was doing and punched it too but he wasn't in his rev band. I heard that waaa that a bike makes when you're dumping gas into it but your revs are too low to do anything with it. I walked away from him. Bet he was embarrassed.

TimWithNumbers
02-05-2011, 12:41 PM
Lord, yes. I absolutely adore the Justy. I kind of developed an affinity for being a tall guy in a little car from my dad - who was scooting around in a little Geo Metro for a few years before he gave it up for something bigger and more equipped to handle the New England winters.

heh this is funny... My wife still talks about her "little red Justy" she loved that car and really hated to have to let go of it, when she couldn't drive a manual any more... She loves our Yaris too, but luckily she doesn't have to drive it (it's a manual, the way God intended).

Hi I don't actually own a Yaris yet, I have an '86 and '87 Celica GT/GT-S replectively, a '98 Rav4, and an '01 Tundra. But my next car is most likely going to be a '07-'08 Yaris 3 door with 5 speed. I plan on daily driver/track car duties for it, maybe even a little Time Trial action with NASA Southeast. But for now just working on paying off the Rav, so I can buy the Yaris and really join the fun!!

5spd stick 3 door. Great car so far. I enjoy driving it. I've been a Toyota driver for a long time and the Yaris was my top choice for daily driver. I was also looking at the Scion XD, but found a 2010 Yaris with 11k miles and the price was right.
The gas $$ savings alone covers more than 1/2 my payment. :w00t:

New 2010 5 Dr automatic owner here. Lost my job in January and the Expedition I was driving, with my ex-employer paying for the gas just wasn't cutting it. Needed a smaller payment and ended up at Toyota dealer looking at the used cars. Drove a Camry w/ 53,000 mi on it and then drove this Yaris with 2300 mi on it. Expecting a slow slug, I was surprised and tickled at the pickup. Needed more legroom in front, so took out the rear seat and made a level platform. Then fabricated four 1/2" x 2" x 16" long bars and moved the front seats back 3 1/4 inches. Now, lots of room for me and stuff.

Wow, how tall are you? I've took a few new dealership cars out to get similar seat brackets made. One was an Avalon, those already have a lot of leg room.

I am Robbie, I come from Queensland, Australia and am a young driver/yaris owner. I am 19 years old and I got my first brand new 2010 Toyota Yaris YR 5 door HB (Auto) on December 29th 2010. It's metallic "blazing" blue in color and no current mods done to it yet.. but I do look forward to trying so mods out. This is my 2nd car that I have owned since getting my license, my first car was just a bomb (97 ford festiva HB). I was very happy to trade in my ford when I got the yaris on a Toyota loan. I am really impressed with the fuel consumption/savings on with my yaris, and so far just love my car so much and just love the feeling of having a brand new car :)

I have a '05 Tundra DC 4x4 which I really like. But with gas prices going up recently and projected to continue upward, I went looking for a used high mpg Toyota to use as a commuter.

It took some time and patience to find what I wanted, a well maintained, low miles (<60k), that got >35 mpg. I looked at a few Corollas, one, an '03, had over 300k miles on it and they were asking $4k. I looked at a 06' Nissan Sentra, but the build quality was less than desired and the engine had a high freq' vibration. Prius' were selling for $12-16k.

Then I saw an add for a '07 Yaris HB for $9,950. This was the first Yaris I had seen during my search, that was up for sale. 44,001k miles, all maintenance records, new Michelin tires, optional Winter package and audio. It look new. I offered $9k and got it.

I am very pleased with it, as is my wife. And I am glad I found this forum I can use as a resource for info and such.

I think I am getting a "big man with little car" complex. I live in a very rural farming area and I have yet to see another Yaris within 100+ miles. Plus, I am getting funny looks from people when I drive around. Should I tell folks that the car belongs to my wife or daughter? :iono:

New(to me) 2007 Yaris hatchback owner here...

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb230/mr-mazilla/2843ed85.jpg

I bought this car this month from a courier company that went out of business. I paid 2,000(US) for it and it runs/drives perfectly, no leaks, damage, etc. The cars were serviced every Sunday as it ran about 500 miles a day, 5 days a week since 2008. The interior is near perfect, the paint is fair. The front is rough, with tons of tiny chips, but that's to be expected after that many miles. I'm planning on keeping the car for my current 400 mile a week commute instead of driving my 10MPG Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

I can say I've been shocked at the fairly low price of aftermarket parts for this car, all these cheap parts are refreshing compared to my Wrangler build, or my 1970 Mercury Cougar restomod.

This week I put a 6" indash Pioneer touchscreen, tinted the windows, and slapped on a set of drag DR-24 15's(Work RSZ-R knockoffs) and a set of Nankang 205/55-15's. I'm about to order a set of Eibach ProKit springs from microimage later this week, shocks will come when I decide on a set(any suggestions? not looking for a bumpy 6 hour commute).

The first thing my dad asked me after I closed the deal for this car was "how much have you spent on aftermarket parts"...I had to LOL, he knows me better than I know myself because I told him "none, and I don't plan on it" that was before I typed "Yaris parts" in the ebay search box. When he finally sees it he's gonna give me a speech

New to these forums but not to my Yaris. I bought my 2007 Toyota Yaris 4 door sedan (dark blue, automatic) back in September 2006. I had ordered it several months prior new from the factory... originally wanted it in the light blue variety, but the dealership said there was a paint defect a month or two after I ordered it and asked if I would be ok with the dark blue instead (or I'd have to wait a really long time if not). So I ended up with dark blue. I have the power package, fog lights and cruise control on it.

My boyfriend recently got a new stereo for his 1993 Toyota Supra, so once he finishes installing that I'm getting his hand me down a Pioneer FH-P800BT which we will be installing once we get me a new center dash piece so it will fit where the existing factory radio/cd player is currently.

I just had her at the shop to repair a door ding so I also paid for them to re-paint the front and rear bumpers which had some paint missing over the years (the front due to rock chips, the back due to luggage hitting the bumper and removing paint). So now she's back from the shop and looking awesome, shiny, and fully polished again.

Later this year or early next year depending on my motivation I'm going to get new wheels since right now I've got stock wheels and the cheap looking plastic hubcaps and can't wait to get rid of those :) I've had my car paid off since early last year, so really there's no reason I can't put some money back into improving it now that I haven't been making monthly payments for over a year.

This photo is from back in 2006 when I first got the car... I'll take some more recent photos later.

Hi all, first post. Just bought brand new 2010 sedan, 4 door, 5 spd manual with convenience package. Pacific Blue. $2,500 off sticker price, with 1.9% financing. Price of gas made me do some math, so after figuring how much I pump into the Xterra (Nissan), a few extra bucks and I could have a new car!! I was surprised at the size of trunk and interior room in this car, and of course, I was happy with "Toyota" as in: Reliability. Looking forward to saving at the pumps  (I also have an 81 Z-28 [5.7 L] who is very thirsty )Quick question: Any way to display L/100 km or mpg on ODO? (Don't have owners manual, its getting dropped off tomorrow). Looking forward to browsing these forums for info on my new ride  One last thing: Any tips on "break-in" ??

Well hello all, I am the proud new owner of a '07 silver Yaris. It used to belong to my wife but as soon as we found out we had a little one on the way we went and got her a new 4 door easier to load/unload baby Ford Edge.

So with that being said, the Yaris is my new mode of transportation. I am really excited to get some changes/fixes done to it, and greatly appreciate any help/information from all you Yaris Fanatics out there.

As my status says I am in the US NAVY. I have been serving since Sept 2001, I am deploying this summer for a long 9 month cruise and am not looking forward to leaving my Daughter, Wife, and Yaris behind.

Hello to all,

I am proud owner of 11 Yaris 3dr Manual. This will be our commuter car. After falling in love with this car when my wife and I were in PR we had to go out and get one. With fuel expected to go to $5 per gallon we had to make some moves, as my other cars are HUGE gas guzzlers. This is my way of going GREEN.

Hello. Been lurking in this forum for over a month and have spent HOURS reseraching. Some great people here. First off let me start by saying I purchased a 3 dr LB w/ Power Package in Polar White a few weeks back. And of course it is a manual :)

Let me explain my purchase. I have wanted a Yaris for several yrs now, however, until recently you had to pay an arm and a 2 legs for the safety items I wanted, minuse stability control. So I settled for the 1st generation 2008 Honda Fit Sport. The looks were not great but it was a good lil car. So then the 2nd generation Fit came out in 2009 and I purchased a top of the line model. Unfortunately I was also forced to purchase the $1,800 navi to get VSC :( The car was just under 20k loaded with every feature. I still wanted the Yaris but it did not have 6 air bags, VSC so I went with the Fit, aesthetics aside. I drove this Fit for 2 yrs w/ several minor probs all fixed under warranty. Probs included squeaky pedal(minor) to more major issues such as the drivers window CONSTANTLY, slowly edging down, requiring me to pull it up and dificulty (grinding actually) while putting it in 5th gear. I've driven a manual my entire life(since 14, and 35 now) so I know it wasn't me. The dealership was fantastic with the pedal squeak but could never fix the other 2 probs. I also forgot to mention the VERY inaccurate computer mpg guage!! I spoke to a 19 yr Honda mechanic and he also explained he was not AT ALL happy with the build quality of the 2nd generation Honda, especially for it's price and for being a Honda. SO, unhappy with the Fit I moved into a 2011 LOADED Honda Element. Problems from day two on the Element. Problems with difficulty starting(garaged all winter) to buttons on cruise control not working.

So I went to visit my sister near KC Missouri and stopped at Toyota dealer after reviewing their new inventory of Yaris's fitting my criteria. I was sooooooooo happy that Toyota finally added ABS,6 air bags, and VSC STANDARD!!! Traded in the Element, lost $2,500, or my ass, however you want to look at it. BUT I finally got what I wanted and to be honest their is NO comparison between a Honda and a Toyota in build. EVERYTHING on the Yaris is tighter and more solid than the 2nd generation Fit I had. The door shuts more soundly. The ONLY thing "better" on the Fit was the pretty dash and the cushier materials and the "magic seats." The ride of the Yaris is just as good, the seats feel great(I'm only 5'7" but I've traveled in them in 14 hr increments) and EVERYTHING feels more solid. Honda might have spent the extra money($4,700 more in my case) on a fancier interior but I would take the Yaris over the Fit anydamn day of the week. AND I'VE OWNED TWO!! I feel like a pig in shit and have a great Yaris that does everything I want it to. I considered waiting for the Scion IQ(Toyota IQ) coming late summer, but it is smaller and Idon't need to pay 4k more like I did for the Fit for a fancier interior. So if any of you out there in this forum feel like you should have bought a new Fit, I'm here to tell you you made the right decision. I know I won't be stranded on the side of the road with the Yaris and I couldn't have made a better decision.

Hello all. I'm new here but not new to the Yaris. I bought my wife an 07 sedan brand new, and it's been everything we expected. So when the time came for my daily a super reliable 84 Celica gt to be replaced, I always figured I would get myself a Yaris.
Well, last week the time came and I'm now the proud owner of a 2011 3 door liftback, manuel trans, power package with alloys, Blazing Blue.

Hello. I've been driving a 2010 5-door hatch S-Limited (automatic transmission with skirts spoilers) for about 5 months now. The white (Super White for the Indonesiaan market) colour I chose is quite impressive here, since there are so many dominant metallic silver and black on the streets. More white cars are increasing in demand here, especially for luxurious Benz, Bimmer, Camry, Alphard and some big SUVs, going back to the nostalgic 1960s, but a white Yaris still looks outstanding even among similarly looking hatches, such as Mazda 2, Ford Fiesta, or Hyundai i20 (sadly, Honda Jazz is only available in pearl white here).

hello all, new here but not to Yaris. have had my '08 black 3door auto for almost 3 and a half problem-free years and 84,000miles now. it has jus recently developed a little exhaust leak, but i dont blame the car, i wrecked it at around 20,000miles and they replaced the exhaust, so i think the bodyshop messed it up, oh well. oh, the ipod port stopped working too, but thats it. other than that she has been a great car! 35-36mpg consistently with auto and i use the AC alot. tinted, TRDintake since new. i had TRD exhaust on it for the first 30,000 but i got tired of the noise.

a guy at work tells me his mechanic told him to change the timing belt at 60,000miles on his yaris, something about a daewoo engine or ?? is this true? OR when should it be changed?

my only complaint is the seat. i am 6'1" 210 and have to recline the seat way back gangsta-style because the seat is just too tall......are there any bolt-in seats available that are lower? thanx for any help!

No timing belt on the Yaris to need changing. It's a chain so you shouldn't have to touch it under normal circumstances.

Hello All,

Been surfing around getting a lot of great info,, thank you

Just bought a '10 this week, 4dr /auto /power pkg/ stock, my GF's for work, unfortunately auto was required...

So far very impressed with this little vehicle - not my first Toy, and as true with all - fit, and finish is impressive for a mass producer... road noise on OE Goodyears is a bit disappointing but they will be replaced before years end...still on the first tank,, We opted out of another Vibe/Matrix as I just got rid of my '09 and it was great, but the fuel economy of this thing sold us considering it's future ahead...

Cheers !!

Hi all. First post here, but have been lurking for quite a while.

My wife and I have an '07 Vitz (Yaris LB) in Meteorite Metallic that we bought back in Jan of '07. Wife loved the Vitz back in Japan and was stoked when she found out they would begin to sell them here. She refuses to call her car "Yaris". Haven't done anything to the Vitz as we will be trading it in for a 5-door version soon as we prepare for a family. (We're both small so we can pull that off.)

Once we get the new one I plan to put some H&R Sport Springs, Tokico Blues, 15x7 Rota J-Mags (Polished) wrapped around with 185/60/15 Yokohamas, Intake and Exhaust (unsure of which yet).

Hopefully next year, I'll join the other So. Cal Vitz owners in the All Toyotafest at the Queen Mary. :drinking:

Hey all! I'm new here, a month ago my honda accord was stolen. Since then I've gotten my self a credit card so that I have a line of credit! I plan on financing a 2011 Yaris 3 door hatch. Only thing is that it feels a bit girlish as with the rounded bumpers. I plan on buying the base model with a few TRD parts. But I'm hoping to one day get my hands on more aggressive/manly bumpers/bodykit.

Only thing I could find were for 2007 - 2008 or something like that. And from what I read if I were to buy a bodykit for a older model I'd also have to switch over headlights? I'd rather not.

I know this is a silly thing to hold me back from purchasing a car I know I'll get a good amount of use from... But I plan on buying for long term and I want to enjoy my car!

Any suggestions?

ilikerice
06-16-2011, 05:56 AM
actually, the 07-08 is the better year to get. Bodykits are more friendly with the earlier years. its the 09-11 that dont have a huge market for kits yet, but thier coming. I got a 2010 and got side skirts and a rear bumper, but had to change out my tail lights to the 06-08 style for it to fit right.

-Tinted the windows (20% in the rear, 50% on the fronts)

I really enjoy reading all the amazing DIY projects that you have all done! Inspires me to try some things out myself. I've also asked a few questions here and there, and really appreciate all of your feedback! Thanks!

Anybody have any experience with, or opinions on the H&R Sports Springs???

If I decide I want a slightly larger drop than the Eibach Pro's??? Ride quality, etc? I don't see them used very much on the Yarii here.

The Eibach Sportline is just a little too much of a drop for me, but the Pro's might be a little too little.

Hi, Newbie. I just joined this forum today, Feb/11/2012 because I'm new-car shopping, and am considering a 3 door automatic Yaris. I love my 2002 Rio Cinco, and am looking for something similar, so I'll be perusing this forum, looking for info. Nice to be here.

Hi everybody. I joined this group when I had my first Yaris, didnt post much, so cant remember if i posted a hello before :) I want to get into posting now that im going onto my 3rd car. Bought a 2nd Yaris after the first one and it was banjaxed since day one so getting replaced, hope to have my new one by the end of the week :) Cant wait.

So hello to everyone, happy to see there is a forum about Yaris specifically. Wish I had of taken advantage of it when I got my second Yaris - could have used alot of support for that one

hello everyone, Proud new owner of a 2011 yaris sedan. Love the car it does everything I could want it to do and more, Im really enjoying the fact that I can drive to work all week and burn up 1/4 the gas I did in my tired out old hyundai

Im have many questions about this car, its my first new(ish) car so I want to keep it pretty nice. Im an aircraft mechanic, so i like to tinker with cars but I avoid working on them if i can. I dont mind doing routine maintenance but other than that I tend to get frustrated with them if i cant figure something out

I look forward to learning alot about this car.

Thanks everyone

Hello I was looking forward to modding my 2007 Toyota Yaris S to make it reach higher speeds and higher horsepower other than what it gets as a manual... so my question is is the Yaris S even worth modding? Its a sedan with 5 speed manual thinking about modding it from the engine, not really worried about the cosmetics or how it looks but to make it go fast or should I just save up the cash for another car?

why?

that is up to you, but look around the forum, especially the turbo one, and you'll see you can get a ton of power out of this engine depending on how much money and time you want to put into it.

Hello all,
I've been lurking here for a bit and finally decided to join. I purchased a 09 Meteorite Metallic 3dr in March, I originally got it because of the gas mileage (and of course because its a Toyota) but I am pleasantly surprised with it. I just plan on installing some springs and a sway bar for now, but you know how that goes...
I also have an 82 supra that I'm doing a 7mgte swap.
Anyways I usually don't post much, I've been a member of celicasupra forums since 2003 and I only have 151 posts lol but we'll see.

Thanks
Brian

I wouldn't say I'm new to Yarisworld, but after wrecking my LB in 12/2010. I did miss the reliability of my Yaris. I didn't really consider getting another one right away. I thought about but never was to go through with it. Well needless to say I just picked up another Yaris a few days ago. So I'M BACK:biggrin:. Feels good to be back. I picked up a 2010 Sedan AT. This is my daily driver, I loved the LB but I just got to the point where I really wanted the room. In between the time I wrecked my Yaris and now, I went back to Hondas and picked up a 1991 Civic that I cleaned up and plan to do a motor swap in. That car was great but I just didn't really like the idea of spending $1600 on a motor swap. So I sold that in March to a good friend of mine. I picked up an 87 Scirocco 16V in March to replace the Civic, awesome fun rare car. I just wish the original owner would have told me it had a blown headgasket. To make a long story short I'm keeping the Scirocco and slowly restoring. Glad to be back

got a 2008 yaris hb w/12k miles, took it to dealer last year to have checked for over rev due to not going into 4th gear when engine is cold. Shifts fine when its warm. dealer mechanic said all the toyotas do this even the camrys, does anyone have the same problem here? Since the car is NOW past the 36 month or 30k mile I probably have no options but would like to know if it is characteristic of the yaris, Also downshifts to 3rd on 45 degree downgrade if traveling 50 mph or less
