Hello Birdy!!! My name is Laura and I work at Koons Tysons Toyota in Vienna, VA. I've got a picture showing the 15 in aluminum alloy wheels with 4 lugs. Now, do me a favor, and please tell me what you mean by offset. Are we talking about "footprint" or a wheel base............or what? Tell me what your idea of offset is and I will find you the answer.
As a matter of fact, if you have any questions about the Yaris, I can answer them. Koons will have the largest initial allocation of the Yaris on the east coast. And I am going to make it my business to know everything there is to know about this vehicle before it hits the ground. One more note: my first Yaris arrives on the lot on 17 March 2006.
If interested I am already taking preorders for both the sedan and the liftback.

Offset is the distance of the rim centre from the inside of the wheel versus the distance to the outside of the wheel...
Bolt pattern on the Yaris is 4 x 100, wheel centre bore is Toyota standard 54.1...
Offset on the yaris is a positive offset, ranging from +38 to +50, depending on the width...
The TRD 17 inch alloys for the JDM Vitz are +50...
I don't know what the factory 15 inch alloy offset is...
Cheers

.....simply amazed there is already a forum up for this AMAZING BEAUTY OF A VEHICLE!!!!!!!!!!!
This car is a DREAM-COME-TRUE for me (I'm talking of the LIFTBACK, not the sedan).
Laura, I'm wondering if I can ask you some questions??.
Here's my dilemma: While, ON PAPER, this car seems simply awesome, I'm concerned how the REALITY will be: Specifically what I'm talking about is the REAL-WORLD availability of the so called "options". For example, with the previous Echo, Toyota bragged till the cows came home, about safety features like ABS being available....However try finding one at a dealership so equipped and you know what I'm talking about!! (Toyota is really famous for doing these kinds of things!!!)
Now, my big concern is the availabilty of SIDE-CURTAIN AIRBAGS. This is an ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE, WILL-NOT-COMPROMISE-ON option, but I can already "sense" that when these vehicles actually arrive at dealerships, virtually all vehicles will come WITHOUT these life-saving devices, because a majority of the American public is too stupid to spend the 600 bucks on something that may mean the difference between their LIFE AND DEATH  .....Please tell me I'm wrong and that the dealerships will order most vehicles WITH Side curtain airbags?? .....This becomes especially important because the other "MUST-HAVE" is a Manual transmission!!!....a car such as this is simply not right with an automatic!!!
In a nutshell this is what I'm looking for:
LIFTBACK
5-speed Manual
Side-Curtain Airbags
would like the 15" alloys, but flexible on this
(Flexible on all other options, because I know how difficult it is to get the options you want on a Toyota product)
Do you think the above configuration is realistic???
Thanks in advance for your response!!!

Sounds about the same time frame as we have here in the states. Must be coming over on the same boat. Or same group of boats. I'm way excited. It will be interesting to see if toyota delivers on time or when they really will get here. I've always been pretty impressed with the toyota folks how they deliver what they say they will do.
Whereas american car people never seem to meet expectations on workmanship or what they say they will do. Sad but true.

Hey All!
I'm almost ready for a second car. Wife and I share a Landcruiser but sometimes you need another car. I also would rather spend my money on motorcycles than cars so the Yaris is looking like my best option right now. Somebody on Edmund's was arguing pretty convincingly about the Corolla being a better buy because of sales discounts and equal gas mileage, what do you guys think?
Um, you simply cannot prove that airbags have saved lives.
What you CAN prove is that airbags have needlessly murdered people.
If you are not the perfect 6' and 180 lbs, then odds are an airbag is more likely to injure you than save you.

good point. I've known a couple of people that have gotten a bad whiplash and bad bruises from the air bags going off. One incident happened when the people accidently ran into their garage door at around 5 miles an hour..
oooh, ouch.
I have seen to many stupid stories where the government charges parents with murder when an airbag has killed their child.
Hmm, I think it is the government who makes airbags a requirement, maybe the government should realize it is their own fault.
Just one more area government needs to get out of everyone's life.

how is this about the Yaris again...?
An airbag saved my wife's life in a head on. PERIOD.
parents letting children be in the front seat is not the gov't's fault. neither is it the gov't's fault when parents let their kids jump around their car without their carseats/seatbelts on. Don't blame the gov't for poor parenting.
I'm a commuter and hope to find one with side curtain airbags and ABS too...

I just don't understand why the seat belt is not enough to protect people in a crash. Stops your momentum. I've also heard that when the air bag goes off if it doesn't knock you out it covers your face so you can't see to steer away from an accident. I'm sure some people need airbags. But thats their choice.
Personally I wish it were up to the owner whether they want to have them in a car or not. To me from what all I've heard they're more dangerous. But at least we should have the choice whether we want them in the car or not.

The government forces people to buy airbags. That is why it is the governments fault.
The government has NO business telling people what they have to get in their cars.
I am glad airbags saved your wife's life. That is good.
However a safety device that has killed people isn't so safe, and shouldn't be forced on people buy a government that has absolutely no idea what it is doing.
It's hard to judge neither airbag cost more life than it save or vise versa. Sure, we can look at the stats and point fingers at the government about it. However, accidents happens. And we have no control of that, and we would not know when will airbag save our life or injuried us.
But I do agree on we should have a choice of having airbags or not!

Hello!! Sorry it took so long- busy taking preorders and educating people about Yaris!!
Your request for a manual LB with side curtain airbags, and 15'' alloys is ABSOLUTELY realistic!! The only question left is.........................................
what COLOR do you want  ?
In answer to your other question about SCA- it depends on what is high in demand. Right now it is an option that can be added for $650. Personally, I think all of them SHOULD have it because, as you said, safety is a matter of life and death and I COMPLETELY agree they should all have it. Unfortunately, some people just see it as another expense and would rather not pay for it.
It's hard to judge neither airbag cost more life than it save or vise versa. Sure, we can look at the stats and point fingers at the government about it. However, accidents happens. And we have no control of that, and we would not know when will airbag save our life or injuried us.

All I am asking for is the choice. Tell the government to get the heck out of my life. They have enough trouble trying to run the country, never mind running every citizens life as well.

here in montana its really mostly bigger american muscle trucks and big suv's. Which leads me to believe they have a problem with thier self esteem here.. They're gonna be in a world of hurt by next summer if gas prices go up as expected.
Honestly, I see quite a lot of hatch 3dr or 5dr out on the street in Toronto. It is really that un-popular in the states????
Hatchbacks are not very popular in the USA at all. Combine that with the fact that Japanese seem to be getting into Sports Sedans in the thousands, and their simply are not many hatch's to buy in the USA.
Then the ones that are brought over here simply do not sell well. The Mercedes C class is the last example of a good hatch not selling well. Before that was the BMW 325 ti, a great handling car that very few bought.
Americans in their 30s and older all grew up in monstrous station wagons, and they do not have fond memories of them. This causes them to avoid anything that reminds them of a station wagon.
However I think as the teenagers and 20somethings start buying new cars, hatch's will become more popular in the states.
Another factor that may have affected the popularity of the hatchbacks is the belief that when rear ended, they do not have a trunk to cushion the impact. When tailgated by a large vehicle, a driver of a hatchback is likely to be more nervous. Let us see if the Yaris will change people's thinking and set a new trend in the US.

You know, there are quite a lot of people who do not have too much confidence in the hybrid design, and some of them will fall in love with the Yaris. Also, a Prius will take a very long time to save its owner enough money in terms of fuel cost to justify the price differential between itself and the Yaris.
Yes, most people that buy the Prius do it for the snob factor. The Prius is the only hybrid that stands up and shouts, "I'm a hybrid. Look at me."

Anyone know the actual average miles of the prius. I've read that its about 45 miles to the gallon average. And the higher the elevation or colder it is the worse the gas milage.
It depends completely on the driving style. Check www.greenhybrid.com for a bunch of info on the Prius II.
What bothers me most, apart from their high prices, is the fact that hybrids are fuel efficient in cities and less so on highways. I do not regret having bought the Yaris instead of a hybrid.

Are you sure. The two folks that i know that have a prius here in montana say they barely get 50 miles to the gallon. Were at 3,500 feet and its usually about 32 degrees fairenheit here. WHich is suppposed to make a difference. I'm very glad toyota is coming up with alternative ideas for better fuel economy. I hope they keep at it and keep improving it
Personally I just want the simpilicity of the yaris engine and get the 35+ miles per gallon and I'll be happy.
Check www.greenhybrid.com for hundreds of people's Prius II gas mileage ratings.
They have 478 Prius II's in their database. The best fuel economy is 71.8, the worst is 35.8, the average is 45-50. That is US mpg.

The difference is driving style, driving locations, temperature, gas used, altitude, among many other things.
There are so many reasons for getting different gas mileage that they simply cannot all be listed.

People getting 55 and 60mpg with their Priuses is simply not the norm. To get these unrealistic figures, you have to drive like an insane madman, or maybe cruise on a lonely 2 lane road with no other traffic around. These scenarios are simply not feasible in the real world, especially for people living in major cities like Los Angeles, where I live. So unless you live someplace like Podunk, North Dakota, you're not likely to come anywhere close to the EPA estimates. (FYI, I'm originally from that area  )....and aside from this, Hybrids are far more adversely affected by such things as COLD WEATHER, compared to a regular gas engine!!
The reason I know this fact to be true, is because not only do I have friends and an uncle who drives the current generation Prius, but have rented it as well from Fox-Rent-A-Car for 4 days and done some meticulous tests. From what I've heard first hand, as well as from what I've gleaned from my own tests, conservative driving yields mileage somewhere in the LOW to MID 40s combined (I personally got around 48mpg driving a constant 60mph on the freeway, and 41mpg driving conservatively in city areas)...In my tests of "agressive" driving I obtained around 35mpg in the city and 42mpg on the freeway at a constant 80mph, with an occasional slowdown to 70 - 75 due to traffic. Obtaining "hyper mileage" using techniques such as "PULSE and GLIDE", is simply not feasible in the real world, unless you have a great desire to be run over by some monster SUV behind you (or maybe even get shot by some moron) ......as a sidenote I made an interesting observation from these tests. Toyota claims better gas mileage in city driving conditions, but as can be seen, that never happened!!...just goes to show how FLAWED the EPA test procedures are!!
So as can be seen, a NORMAL person driving in the NORMAL world will only be able to get an average of around 45mpg with a Prius, using a CONSERVATIVE driving style. Friends of mine who own Stick-shift Toyota Echos, and using the same CONSERVATIVE driving style, average around 38 to 40mpg!!! That is a difference of only about 5mpg, which in purely FINANCIAL TERMS, virtually makes no sense at all. A majority of people who buy Priuses (such as my uncle) do it for a combination of several factors, which include the "environmental feel good" aspect, and also to make a statement about their choices (this is the precise reason the Civic Hybrid does not sell as well as the Prius), and the gas savings is just an added incentive. However, here in Southern California, the ability to drive single in the CARPOOL LANE does make for a significant benefit as well!!
Wow, you must be the research type! Thanks for sharing your findings. Your observation that buyers of the Prius may be buying it for something other than just practical needs is laudable. After reading your post, I am even more happy that I have chosen the Yaris instead of the much more expensive Prius.
Since I travel a lot on highways, I think for me the difference between the fuel costs of the two cars should be quite small. On highways, the Prius does not have many chances to use braking and downhill runs to charge up its batteries, hence the relatively less spectacular fuel economy. In other words, on a long highway with a smooth traffic flow, a Prius is just a mid size car with a small engine carrying an additional load of an electric motor/generator and many batteries.
BTW, is the Prius quieter than the Yaris? Is its ride more comfortable?

That is cool, you figured out the Prius is not good for you.
But just because the car isn't good for you does not mean it is not good for anyone else.
Especially considering your location. That is usually one of the biggest difference in mpg figures.
What you call driving conservative might not be so conservative to someone else. And while hyper-mileaging is not something you can do on normal roads, using some hyper mileaging tricks you can certainly get better gas mileage.
Constant velocity will not net you the best gas mileage. That is a simple fact.
As for getting 55-60 mpg in a Prius, on greenhybrid.com, only 26 out of 489 get above 55 mpg. That is about 5.3%.
However, only 21 out of 489 get below 40 mpg. That is 4.3%.
I don't know of any other midsize cars that can average 40 mpg or more.
The average they report is 48 mpg. That is good gas mileage.
As for it not making financial sense, of course it doesn't. No one buys a hybrid for financial reasons. It is simply a snob vehicle. They buy because it makes them feel good, and they can brag about it. As you mentioned, the Civic Hybrid does not sell well, and that is because it looks like a Civic. There is no screaming,"I am driving a hybrid, I am better than you," from a Civic Hybrid.
Just stop making the blanket statements. 4 days of testing simply does not add up very well. I can say the top Prius II on greenhybrid.com gets 71.8 mpg over 12,158 miles. That is a lot more then 4 days of testing.

Hey everyone! Great forum! I'm looking forward to being a Yaris owner myself soon...Was going to order an '06 until I heard the '07s were coming. Now I'm waiting for my dealer to get me the '07 release date. Does anyone happen to have the inside on this? I'm in Calgary, Canada. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I have been lurking here for a while, and am now a member. I was upset with Toyota yesterday, as my husband and I drove over 100 miles to see the Yaris at the Pittsburgh Car Show and it wasn't there. So by the end of the day, I had test driven a Cooper Mini and loved it! However, upon more rational debate and internet searches, I came the to the conclusion that buying a MIni might be a big gamble considering it appears to have lots of issues and the dealership is an hour away. Anyway, so I am back to the Yaris, I just wish I could see one in person, or at least see some pictures with people beside it! I think the Yaris still is going to be the car I want, so I am going to be here for a while, thanks in advance for any advice you may give, and forgive me any dumb questions I may ask.

Ok- first of all- where I got 57 mpg is driving on a 6 LANE toll road to Dulles Airport. If you do what is called stealthing (speeding to the preferred mph then letting it glide until you want to speed up and apply the gas) it is entirely feasible. Also, I am originally from Iowa so saying it would only work in the Midwest area is not true. It works actually better- from what I've heard from Prius customers and my own experience- in stop and go traffic like DC where I am located. Granted- if you are a speed demon this is not for you- check out an Avalon Touring. But for people who are environmentally conscious and would like a tax deduction this is a great vehicle if you know how to drive it and would like great gas mileage.

:barf: THIS was my reaction after reading so much dribble and Self-Proclaimed "Clap Trap" ( and I'm using the G rated Version).......... I am Not from the Boonies or Trapped in a MetroPlex............I do give a Damn about the Environment....BUT didn't buy my 2nd Prius because of that. I get 63 mpg combined City/Highway..........I drive along at between 70 mph (highway) and stop and go traffic (City)....I have been able to cover 22 Miles without ever having the 4 Cylinder Engage...........( That's 99.9 mpg )...... and I Drive just as normal as the next guy!!! You Renting a Vehicle to perform your own Test was Idiotic!!!! That is like giving a Car to a 16 year old, who just got his license, and telling them To drive cross country without a map!!!! You don't jump in a Prius and Magically recieve 60+mpg...........Like anything else in life you have to work at it to get good. I have sold many many many Prii and all my people have started out with around 45- 50mpg.....Over time and "Trial and Error" They have mastered the Driving style for the Prius...............WHICH should be a Mandatory Course (in CA Especially) Because the way you drive a Prius correctly can also Improve Gas miliage for a NON-Hybrid vehicle.
I hope that you will think twice about Bad Mouthing a vehicle you know nothing about in the future.........If you want the facts please request them from an Expert and let's NOT try anymore "Blind Taste Test":respekt:
Hasn't you mother ever told you ....."If you have nothing good to say ....say Nothing"!!!!!
That is really good gas mileage, but just to nitpick, you can't both "Drive just as normal as the next guy,"
and then say,
"You don't jump in a Prius and Magically recieve 60+mpg...........Like anything else in life you have to work at it to get good. I have sold many many many Prii and all my people have started out with around 45- 50mpg.....Over time and "Trial and Error" They have mastered the Driving style for the Prius."
This second statement is the correct one.
"Because the way you drive a Prius correctly can also Improve Gas miliage for a NON-Hybrid vehicle."
I agree with that statement 100%.

Can anyone confirm if the 2007 models come with a black stereo, instead of the silver one that doesn't match any of the interior of the RS model.
Thanks in advance.

thanks guys for the welcome. i know they you guy would like the avatar. Montreal always cold. One of the joys of montreal. As for the yaris Leather was a select dealer option. From what i know there was only 2 dealership on the island that have it. Also i was able to get my ce fully loaded cheap than the RS. The extra in the RS didn't realy interest me. anyways took pic while at work on teh nightshift will post later on the board. There more option on the CE than the RS. For my dealership the rally spoiler is suppose to be in at the end of march. hopefully.

I got a call back from the dealership today, and they said they would have my car by the end of this month, i'm excited, but i'm gonna go in tomorow, and bitch, because interest just droped to 3.9% for 60 month term, so i want the to match that or give me stuff that will balance the difference out. When i put my order in, it was 5.4%, so thats like $500 over 5 years.

So good news, bad news and good news.
Good news, is that i went into the dealership today to get them to match my financing of 5.4%@60 that i put in mid jan, to the new 3.9%@60 that they have on right now for Toyota Red Tag days.
Now the bad news, the Yaris with 6 disk CD changer, (standard on the RS) can not have the dealer installed iPod connector. It just doesn't work with the cd changer, the dealer said. So sadly, i longer have an iPod connector in my Yaris.
Good news, dealer said that he car was in transit, some where over the pacific ocean, and once the car hits vancouver, it gets put on a train, and 1 day later i have my NEW Yaris. EXCITING

Guys they've been on showroom floors in Canada since October 17th. Not only did they get them earlier, but they can be configured with more stuff (and doors) than we will get.
Yaris replaces the Echo Hatch which U.S. also didn't see. The thinking is that since they don't get Scions, the Yaris fills that market segment instead.

Talked to a guy from Country Hill Toyota in calgary, at the auto show, and he told me that i should re-think getting 18 inch rims cause your gonna have to sacrifice on the tire, and its not a good thing to do in calgary, with all the pot holes. So he recommended going with 17, and that they have packages at the dealership, going from around 1000 to 1600 dollars, including installation, and it wouldn't void the warrenty.

Many people I walked past were trying (and swearing) to but to get back far enough from any car to take a decent picture meant there was about 20 people in front of you trying to see the cars. One thing I did notice was that the various cars in the compact and sub-compact classes (Fit, smartfortwo, Mini, YARIS) were drawing way more attention than the luxury ones! Good to see. The mini, Yaris and smart were drawing, by FAR, the largest line-ups, though.

I had toyota install a 2-Way Remote Car Starter and Security, so not to void any warrenties. I didn't even know they offered it, but they did, so i just added the cost to my financial payments.
Never sat in the Fit...did see it and didn't like exterior nearly as much as the Yaris. Auto show was an adventure since I had family in and my 3-yr old niece was glued to my side! She preferred the minivans mostly but did give a big nod to the Yaris when I told her 'auntie' just ordered one!:bellyroll:
I asked at Country Hills about security system availability for mine when I ordered and he said they were still 'ironing' out some wrinkles of what would work with the stereo, keyless etc. but would let me know. Assuming yours is a dealership add-on, did you order it when you paid your deposit or after? And can I ask how much?

When i got this car i never tought that i was getting a really good one! Im glad to be here!

Welcome! Good cars are sold out fast friend! I cannot say the Civic is not a good car. In fact it is quite good. However, the Yaris is good too, and it certainly does not lack power. So please don't worry!
Compared with the Civic, the Yaris is slightly more fuel efficient and is easier to park. It allows you to sit higher and have a more commanding driving position(that is, if you like that kind of sitting position). Its fold down rear seats afford you a lot of cargo handling flexibility. Unlike the Civic, its look is much less generic. Park it next to a Civic in the street and see which one catches more eyes. Also, if it can be considered as the next generation Echo(I would so consider), it is a lot less prone to car theft(at least this is true in Canada).
I guess you can hardly go wrong with either keeping the Civic or going for the Yaris. You may also like to check out registration and insurance cost differences about which I know little. Cost differences are likely to exist though because the Civic is classified as a compact car but the Yaris is a sub-compact.
Just my humble opinion. Wish you good luck!
Hi Rel3elwitOutacoz, further to my last post, I would like to draw your attention to hoahmaru's post today in the "Canadian Members" thread. His views about the Yaris are similar to mine, and he has talked about the Civic too.

Hiya folks.
Nice to see a fan site up..
Another newly minted US Yaris owner, here.
It was an impulse buy, but I was a incredibly desperate for a cheap, efficient and most importantly, reliable new commuter. Drove off with a 2007 Sedan S A/T before I could do all my homework. However, no real remorse and I didn't get majorly screwed on the price.
Wish I could say I plan to mod the heck out of it, but an auto expert/freak I am not. Really it's just something reliable for me to pile a truckload of miles on to. OK...maybe I might want to upgrade the sound system, if I can figure out how to safely pull elements apart, but that's down the road - and maybe even after some posts with pictures/instructions by an experienced guy (hint) .
In last 2 weeks of ownershp, I have no real issues. My first Toyota.. so I can already see the fit and finish advantage - even on an entry level vehicle.
If push came to shove, the only thing that bugs me (a little) is that it can be sluggish when I have to really punch it (a problem in the A/Ts, as noted by some reviewers), but for the price I can't scream too high. Oh yeah, I do miss the Tach - even on an A/T. Who's f-ing bright idea was that?
Look forward to the post reads...
-Cya Later
Welcome EconoBoxer, if the only thing you do with the vehicle is commute, then you might be able to remove the rear seats and some of the other stuff. Not to sure about a sedan and what can be easily taken off, but the lighter the weight the better the acceleration and the gas mileage.

Hello everyone
New around Yaris World. I was at the Toyota Dealership getting my truck recall worked on when I asked a sales guy when the Yaris was coming. He told me not for a long time. Two months later and they are on the lots.
I went back two days ago and all my local dealer had was a sedan for a demo and another sedan in the showroom already sold. They are not expected to get LB's in for another 3 weeks. I think the Yaris is going to be a good little car for the MPG. I currenty have a Tacoma which sucks gas big time. Approx around 17MPG  I will keep the truck for snow and bad weather since it is 4X4 and hopefully get the Yaris LB for a commuter car.
I have read thru the site and see it is very hard to get the LB in the options wanted. I will not settle even if I have to order one. I want the LB in the Blazing Blue color (is that the proper name?) loaded with the weather/convience/power package stick not auto!
I was considering the Mini Cooper but the price $$$ is way too much for what you get. The Yaris is Toyota's version of the Mini.... hahaha, for me anyways!
Okay, this first post is long enough I think:laugh:

Hi Why? Read my post under "what finance rate did you get?" You will see it is very very hard to get a LB right now in what I want
I refuse to order one till I can at least see one in person and test drive it.
That is not a bad idea. Although testing a manual LB might be a bit of a problem at this time, sticking to what you want is a good thing.
Did you buy your tacoma at one of your nearby dealerships? If you go back to that salesperson, they might be able to help you order and find one to your liking, faster then you would doing it on your own.
The good thing is the majority of dealerships will let you pay a small deposit, and ordering a car does not mean you will buy it.

I am in contact with 3 dealerships each one in a different state. One of the dealerships out of the 3 is the place I bought my truck. They have no problem ordering what I want but I told him to hold off until I can test drive a stick. Right now to test drive a stick no matter what the options are in the car will be enough for me. I have only seen the sedan in person not the LB.
I don't want them to go thru the hassle of ordering it if I am not going to like/purchase it. I don't see why I wouldn't like it but I still want to see the car in person and test drive it first. My truck is sucking too much gas, on average around 17-20MPG...
Thanks for the input Why?

A test drive does make sense. I almost ordered a "Fit" during that pre-delivery hype of theirs, based on my familiarity with Hondas (I've owned several Acuras in a row). I'm glad I didn't, as now that I have had a chance to check out both, I much prefer the Yaris.

I ordered my !BLAZING BLUE! Yaris Liftback with Power Package last week, sight unseen.

Anyway, it should be here 1st or 2nd week in June and I can't wait to take it for a spin and start modding (wheels, tach, etc.)

Just want to chime in that I just purchased a Yaris last Monday. I got off the plane from my vacation in Florida and headed straight to the dealer. It's my birthday gift to myself. I couldn't wait...birthday is still next week. So far it's already 350 miles and still at 1/2 tank (according to fuel gauge).

Its a great little car. It is really nice to invest in something and have it be even better than I could have thought.
It really helped to be able to read info. from people in canada and australia and all over the world what a good car it is.

Just got my Flint Mica "S" auto on Tuesday. Love it so far. Test drove one last Monday and they were able to dealer exchange one for this week. Love the look, pickup power is okay, and stock stereo is much better than expected (for an economy car). The center mount locations for MPH, etc. is okay and not a problem to adjust for.
Just put Scotchguard on the seats and floors. Thinking about adding the OBX pedas and door sills later.

I have had my blazing blue LB for about a week now and I absolutely love it. Surprisingly roomy, great gas mileage, and just a joy to drive. I bought my yaris as a commuter car, I drive 60 miles roundtrip to work everyday. I also have a nissan xterra but that was costing me about $100 in gas a week once prices hit $3/gal. After two weeks of that my wife and I decided that I needed something a little easier on gas (and the wallet). I was originally looking at used echo's but then I happened upon toyota's website and there was the yaris.
Once I saw the LB, I was hooked. I bought it sight unseen, no test drive and I did'nt even know what color it would be! Needless to say this is a great car and is all kinds of zippy fun on the road.

Just curious. How much do you spend (save) on gas now?
It's looking like the yaris will cost about $30 a week in gas. (10 gal. at $3/gal.) So probably around $120 a month if I fill up once a week.

I got my Red 2 door liftback / 5 speed manual a week ago, wow what a cool car, I am not some kid with a new toy , I have driven alot of cars over the years , I had 8 VW beatles from a 1960 to a 1973 and many other cars. I now have a 2002 VW jetta Wagon, 1991 Olds wagan, 1993 Subaru , and a 1991 miata. I looked around alot for a car that was like my old beatles and I found it here. This Yaris is as close as it gets , it's basic , clean looking , simple and fun to drive.
It's nice to know people still like the basics.

Welcome TrancosRT! When you have your Yaris, please compare it with your current car - the Prizm, which I know is a Corolla under a GM Brand name. I hope to see your findings.
I Sure will... I already know it's a lil bit like night and day. Test drove the Sedan Auto and a HB stick and both drove far better than the Prizm. The steering was far more responsive and I liked the driving position better, besides being more silent!
Thanks for the response, TrancosRt! Your positive comments on the Yaris are music to my ears!

I finally got my Blazing Blue Yaris yesterday. I love it. It was deffinately the best buy I could have made. I love the little hidden features like the storage bins next to the spare tire...the extra compartment above the steering wheel...and so on. This car never ceases to amaze me the more i look at it.

Sounds good. Remember you'll be in the break in period. So just don't drive it too hard at first.

how long is the break in period anyways
According to what are said on Page 178 of my 06 Canadian HB's manual, the car does not need an elaborate break-in. Nevertheless, the manual does provide some tips on what to do during the first 1,000 miles (1,600 km) to help improve the future economoy and longevity of the car.

It may vary between cars, but the usual or general rule of thumb is about 1K, it should say in the manual. Hope that helps and congrats!!

Does this mean I should keep it below a certain MPH?

hi! I got my Yaris Liftback (5 speed manual) and I'm pretty happy with it, so far. I'm mad that it doesn't have a tachometer, and the gearing is too short, atleast 5th should be way longer. I'm also annoyed I couldn't get my manual transmission liftback with the power package, even moreso that the Scion xA is a 5door (instead of 3 door USDM liftback) AND has PW,PL,PM,cruise,ABS, Pioneer CD/MP3/6speaker, etc.etc. STANDARD for only $1105 more than a base model Yaris :( but, it's a nice car.
The Yaris is my 4th car, I have a bunch of other project cars that I abuse at will. The Yaris is sacred, for now atleast.
Owner's Manual says 1000 miles (1600km) break in period. Don't keep the car at one speed for too long. Keep below 4000rpm (approximately). It's also nice to let the engine warm up before driving off (atleast let the blue "COOL" light turn off).
If you're gonna swap over to synthetic fluids, don't do it until 10,000 miles (16,000 km).
Just noticed Ralira has become the 1,000th member. Congratulations to Ralira and to Yarisworld!
