Looks like they getting ready for another show. Look in that same section Sq. Another Syracuse Customs thread for a show.

Yeah...they bring in enough to want to do another show.
This is also what my big gripe to Moe Sabourin was a year or so ago. I had him riding with me when Streamline put on it's first show. I suggested that all sound judging should be done blind folded and install should be done after sound judging has been completed (and by different judges).
There are so many biases out there that it is absolutely impossible to be completely objective when you know what you're listening to. I basically suggested a simplified version of a double blind test.

Lets see what happens, my story it's even more interesting now.
The idea of judging blind folded is excellent!!! makes a lot of sense.
I want to become a SQ judge!

I never posted D's name...what I did to was to take these knuckle draggers to task. There really is no excuse for not giving a score sheet within 24-48 hours of the event. They just don't like criticism. That's all.
Heck, even the HAT team captain told me I was right on with my comments.

Post the score sheet D!!!!
Let's discuss!
I'll start...Sir, you should have been placed in the Amateur class. Your up front sub is okay as long as it retains the OEM look. Especially at a little local show like that. Someone did you wrong by placing you into pro/am in your very first show.

First I just want to say I'm a happy man :)
and I'm very sorry to create such a chain reaction...
Well... 2nd, I would like to thank everybody for the event it was great!
I just got the score sheets today! "Thank you" x100000000000
This was my first event but not the last one. (even though I don't consider my car a competition car, more a selfish commuter car that sounds great)
I started this adventure in 2009 when I wanted to add a subwoofer to my OEM Head Unit in my little Yaris, and didn't had a clue about Sound Quality, x-over points, T/A, image and stage, etc, etc.
I learned everything by trial and error, so just been at this event is a big thing for me.
A couple of years ago I contacted xxxxxxxx, I asked him that I wanted to listen to a SQ-car because I was trying to accomplish some thing I didn't had an idea of what Sound Quality in a car was all about. He put together a few meets and we had a lot of fun and I learned a bunch of stuff.
Thanks xxxxxxxx you are a good friend.
I appreciate the feedback from the judges specially about how my system sounds and how I should use RTA to make it sound better
:)
I did have a issue, and I'm not blaming anyone or the system, it's nobody's fault and like a good friend said... you got to play the game...
-"it's about the size of the judges", (with all the respect the we deserve) as soon I met them I knew I wasn't going to get an accurate reading of my stage, but I'm fine with that, thats the way it is.
A friend of mine told me "that's why Mids in a-pillars are good" so you don't have that kind of issues.
-But like I said before I really appreciate the feedback of the judges in particular on how to use RTA as a tuning tool, (all my system has been tuned by ear only) and for the road, so I knew where I was going to get hit, and that was the purpose of my trip, to really see where I was compare to professionals like you.
I was afraid to go inside one of your cars and go... "Wow! what did you do to make it sound like that"
it's like the finish line at the 100 meters, there's the first place, second and so on until the last guy crosses the line... that doesn't means that the last guy is slow by any chance.
I would like to thank you guys for letting me hear your systems and share your expertise, it was too bad I had to leave early and didn't had the chance to listen to all the cars at the show. (next time... do it on a Saturday) lol
Also I would like thank yyyyyyyyy for taking the time to sit in my car and check my system, his input... same as the judges was "PRICELESS"
and what you guys do for these kind of events, I bet there is so much going on, I wish I could do one around here, that would be so cool.
Here are my score sheets that I will hang on the wall with a big happy face:
Thank you everybody. keep up the good work and if there is anything I can help, just let me know... Derick

Notice the scores on imaging and linearity? They need to give you feedback as to why you scored like that.
Again, the rules permit you to be in the amateur class. Why they put you in pro/am on your very first competition is beyond me. That class is for peeps who have played the game for a few years.
The next time to enter SQc, circle amateur. This is absolutely the highest you should compete a right now...IMHO.
The following, I will say as someone who has walked the path before...
We can do better than 206. Also know that this is a local show with amateur judges at best. Hell, they didn't even write the name down of the judge on the IASCA sheet. I know your vehicle can do 230+. I know, I've done it.

05-02-2013, 02:06 AM
Now, tell us about the criticism on your mid bass and sub. Does the enclosure unload on you? When they say the mid bass is bloated, that is an easy fix with the P-99 between 125-400 Hz. Look at dialing the 250-ish Hz freqs down by 3 dB and listen to the difference in "bloating".
sqcomp
05-02-2013, 02:08 AM
Back again to the sub...I'm not surprised about the criticism about it not having sub bass presence. Even Buwalda's G35 takes a nose dive under 30 Hz. The Jurassic Lunch track killed his car at CES in 2011. I know...I'm the one that did it.

When he told me about the sub bass, I said... "well the little 6" does really good for it's size." and he looked at me... you mean you don't have a big sub in the trunk? I replied... "no... just the little 6 up front!" he thought it was a pillow down there, until he touched it.
at the end he said... "very impressive little 6"

I did, but here is where it comes to precision "sweet spot" and these guys are a lot taller than me, I bet without knowing they block the direct path between left Mid to left ear with their leg/foot, besides that because in the difference in height between them and me, their ears weren't at the sweet spot location, this completely shifts the stage to the right and screws up the image and linearity.
one judge said that the center image was to the left, sure if he blocks the left Mid, I know for a fact that the center image shifts to the right. and I remember what you wrote to me... that is why Mids in a-pillars are good, so this is not an issue any more... "Play the game"
judge #2 tells me that left is about 1 inch inside the a-pillar, OK, at this point I want to cut my veins... and/or my ears are not working properly... but then I think, there is a tweeter beyond outside the a-pillar so what's going on... again I bet the difference in height was about 6-8 inches and with big legs and foot blocking the Mid,... yes the left side of the stage may sound like inside the a-pillar.
now I maybe crazy but at the sweet spot and not blocking the left Mid... the Left isn't inside the a-pillar... and the center is not towards the right...
that is why I had one of the best guys at the show (that happens to be my height) try the sweet spot inside the Yaris and he was very impressed! he also explain to me a little bit how to level the EQ using RTA.
I know about the "Class" issue, I read the rules but they didn't let me choose in the class I wanted to participate. It was funny one guy complained that he was set as amateur by mistake!
I'm sure 206 is under rated, specially with the issues I described above.
Now I have to learn how to RTA, buy a mic and get a good software! and...
It's not for competition, it's for me, in the pursuit of the BEST SOUND for "my self"

This is the part where you need to walk in like a boss next time...
You are in amateur class Derick. These ass clowns DO NOT get to choose a class for you. This is a damn good example of bad management of the show. At the next show, circle amateur class. They don't choose for you.

^i think this is the most simple reaction. I completely agree. Congrats D!
Why & s7 - The lame excuses are exactly why I started digging. What they don't like (who does) is criticism. They are correct...I was not there. But I do know, and have done, a much better job at the shows I've promoted and put on.
Heck, I was even informed that Kim Sabourin (IASCA HQ) had to get invoked to get the scoresheets...if that says anything.
It says a ton. And is totally absurd. As is the fact that it was obviously told to the loser to publicly apologize on the thread for being a loser.
sqcomp
05-05-2013, 12:25 AM
I'd better not look at the thread...I'll be tempted to rub salt in the wounds...
The lesson should be for all prospective and new competitors, make sure you research what you're getting into in regards of competition. Ask people that have been there and done that.
I'm not trying to step onto a soap box BUT...
There are definitely people out there that will step all over you to get what they want. I've seen it at both the local and international level in regards to SQ competition. What does this have to do with D's PA competition? I'd be willing to lay bets not only did the local shop have a car/customer in the amateur class that wanted little competition but also had judges that weren't trained properly and also from the shop itself. This is called "trophy harvesting". This is completely unethical and morally reprehensible. I was even "jockeyed" into being in the Pro/Am class last year to insure Team Hybrids' domination on the West Coast. As a good team player I followed direction...much to my shaggrin.
In my case, I had to recuse myself multiple times from judging classes with competitors that were on the same team as I was. I did that to hold myself above the fray. I held a handful of competitions and judged in multiple IASCA single and double point events. I spent my own coin to go to INAC/SBN to see the ins and outs of the world championships. Later I even competed in said championships.
When you look at that thread we're talking about, know that most of the people talking crap have never even left the local area, let alone ever heard a real championship vehicle. The best example of a "championship vehicle" at the PA show was Julian Ridi's Honda Fit...but even that piece of "loveliness" has big weaknesses.
Listen to these words:
If you want to compete, know that there are unscrupulous people out there that will lie, cheat and steal to get a friggin' stupid trophy. What's even worse is the people that know it happens and don't take a stand to do anything about it. These are moral cowards. I can drop bombs with names but I'll refrain...for now.
The silver lining is that there are people out there that really want to compete for sound and nothing else. I reserve the right to do so at any time (re-join competition) OR to help anyone who lives and breathes SQ sound. Ask and I'll give anyone some really good information on sound, theories, practical application and overall strategy to win in the SQ competitions.
I've seen it at the highest level...in other words, been there done that. Learn from me.

That's why I mentioned that I'd buy him a trophy...because some of the sycophants that linger around the "sport" are worse than a flaming case of herpes. They know nothing else aside from competition, their pitiful little world revolves around it...and they desperately try to seem important by showing trophies.
Very few anymore actually participate in it for the love of music. Overwhelmingly it is for what little money there is and the perceived power over those who don't know any better...you hear a "big time" audio name and then never question what they have to say or more appropriately, how they act in the public arena. The nice thing for me is that I noticed it early on while participating at the highest levels available. I took these "people" to task and was summarily ostracized for not towing the proverbial line and having people take ownership for their wrongs.
Something tells me that I'd rather be a person with a clear conscience and morality that is right and true. Think about it, would you rather have someone standing next to you when the chips are down that will sell their soul for a trohpy? Oh hell no.
@ AM - You'd love what I have in the Yaris now! It is almost the polar opposite of what I was running during competition. Does it sound as good? *meh* No, it doesn't image "perfectly" and it has lower power handling...BUT...it took an afternoon to completely install and adjust. It's an "I don't give a F**k what anyone thinks" system. Besides, if I have someone who pisses me off, I have that K3LA to throw a double middle fingered salute with.

The guy on Diyma was bragging about buying medals. How much them things cost Sq ?
sqcomp
05-07-2013, 07:21 PM
I've seen the medals like D has, as low as 80 cents a piece. That's when you buy a buttload though. Heck, if anyone wants a medal or trophy, I've still got some hanging around the shop that I purchased with my own money a couple years ago...I still broke even with a 38 car field for our first show at $25 entry fee (for a 2x IASCA event).
They're probably buing them for a little over a $1 a peice plus the stickers for them. That being said, with MECA, you buy the "Event package" that includes the trophies and medals. The 1x event package, IIRC, is around $250 for the entire event. So, the trophies/medals are ultimately cheap honestly.
Anyone that says they spent a lot of money on them is either lying to you or is an idiot for paying so much for them. That phrase, "a lot" means different things to different people.
My opinion is that if you're bragging about trophies and medals at a 1x or even a 2x, you're full of $hit one way or another.

Do not rely on this sort of stuff too much. Your ears and your preferences are your primary instruments ))
sqcomp
05-11-2013, 02:09 AM
The ears are indeed the only instruments that matter...
...that being said, they can be tricked. Derick, if you're bent on buying an RTA, look for an Audio Control 3055, a Coustic 33 or spring for a term lab. The first two should come with microphones for relatively inexpensively compared to term lab.
The real use for an RTA is level matching over the entire 1/3rd octave range. Phasing would come after that once all levels are matched at the listening position. Once the levels are matched, you'll notice an instant improvement in stage accuracy, width and depth.
Why?
When the level is matched, the sound is reaching the mic at the same time. There's no speaker confusion that throws off the speaker's response to your ears.
We have an RTA at the shop...but it's a bit of a drive for you. :)
derickveliz2

I don't think I can afford a Audio Control 3055 or similar, too much money.

Don't worry, most of my install is just about personal pleasure and just in case my ears are bad, everything is around them and how I like it.
Just to add, now that I have a huge library of SQ Music, I've been nailing down lots of issues I had, or thought I had. Specially in the 30Hz to 200Hz zone.
But still would like the graphic interpretation of what should I be hearing.

Some might say I'm trolling the topic but what I point out validates the lack of professionalism that should be at the forefront of the sport if they want it to grow.
The lack of proper judging, the lack of timely scoring, the lack of proper event result reporting...
...and yes, I can and have done better hosting my own shows.

Too quiet around here, Yaris is blasting! just went by 105,300 miles and still getting 42.2 MPG average.
You just can't believe what I'm after in the little Yaris, call me crazy but it's there I can hear the issue.

I dunna how to make a new post lol but I hope someone will be able to help me. I have a 2007 Yaris sedan. I'm not happy with the stock speakers, I have a sub running off the stock HU but I keep hearing distorted bass coming from the speakers in the back and the doors.
I was thinking about changing the speakers and leaving the HU stock I wanna keep the look. What speakers would you recommend? I need them to run off the HU so they should still be loud but with no bass. I'm thinking something with low watt rating and resistance. I dunna
Thank you

Ok, so what I came through takes my system to a much better stage, the issue that I'm trying to resolve it's an issue related to my Yaris and my System, so it probably won't apply to other installs. but here we go....
So I was looking for a "WOW" factor in my system, first I thought adding a second sub would do it, but not really if I wanted to keep with Sound Quality and not starting fall into SPL (sound pressure level) I still would like to try a 2nd woofer in the near future.
After attending the SQ competitions in NY, a guy who listened to my system said... "some tuning is need it" and I think he said the word "ques" or some thing like that..
For a better understanding he was referring to the female voice followed by a "ppsssst" at the end of some words from the song coming from the female voice, kind of like you could tell the location of the female voice on the stage but at the end it drags to the left or right up and/or down.
So after this conversation I was really challenged on how to take care of this. He said tuning and x-over points but I was sure that something else was going on!

So I found the what could be the "WOW" factor...
as mentioned above I found issues in my system that was or is not letting me have a good stage:
One day in my regular tuning session going through the frequencies and trying to center the image with the EQ I got stuck in a particular frequency... according to my Technic I play a Frequency into the Mids and Tweeters and with the Right & Left EQ I move up and down until I hear/feel the sound in the center of the stage (or at least where I feel it should be) but at some point...
I got stuck! it didn't matter how much I input I had on the EQ the noise was still hitting my LEFT ear no matter what! I started blocking the LEFT Tweeter with my hand thinking that this was the reason I was hearing the signal in my LEFT ear, but nothing...
By accident I moved my RIGHT hand up and down when I notice the signal fades away, "What's going on????" so I found out that the RIGHT Mid has a straight hit directly into the LEFT window and bounces back to my LEFT ear...
Later on I found the same issue with the LEFT Mid a straight path going between my legs and the bottom of the dashboard hitting the RIGHT window and then reflecting the signal to my Right ear.
I spoke with my brother who studies music in NY he understood the issue right away saying "First Reflection"!
I'll try to draw it later for better understanding!

The temporary fix!
or should I say "taking care of some issues"
After doing this dirty improvised fix and some light tuning the stage gets a "WOW" factor!
Very solid, localizing vocals and instruments in the stage is fantastic!

stay tuned!

Let my speakers breathe!!! I'm talking 63Hz - 160Hz...
After going through the experience in meca and iasca I got some good feedback from the judges, one that called my attention was...
-Your Lows (HAT L6 in doors) sound like if you put a piece of cloth over. And you know what? yes the sound wasn't perfect, so I start digging about it, tuning, x-over points R+L EQ and more tuning until I got them a little better but on the shy side.
-At high volume I could tell something wasn't right, and I was getting a rattle once in awhile, I checked the Baffles... very solid, I checked the Deadening in the doors... Overwhelming but I was still getting that little rattle at high volumes, I had to tame them down to prevent that ugly rattle I was getting, I'm not putting a huge amount of Watts but 175 watts to each driver go to go somewhere...
-One day I had my left hand rest on top of the window's controllers and I could feel some little pressure (wind?) coming out from the edges like a small vented box with a subwoofer ... mmm so it got me thinking "Is the internal air space of the door enough?"...
-These L6 are designed as "Free Air" AKA IB (infinite baffle). So maybe Yes! the door is not big enough for the L6's and that is the pressure I feel at high volume levels. Same as I did when I had my mids in spheres with not enough airspace.
-So lets them breathe! I made 3 big holes in each door next to an existing little hole that had a rubber cap sealing the door. See pictures below.

If you need perspective, I can offer it. So can Derick. The last post should have been taken as diametrically opposite of jealousy. It was simply a chuckle and humorous sarcasm into how you mentioned being finished with a sound system. That's all.

What I'm very thankful is to all the help in YarisWorld and Sqcomp for the knowledge and friendship, nothing would have been possible without all you guys.

Right?!
I made an introduction privately that was absolutely welcoming and informative...no sarcasm.
I've been playing around with my new project, the little SRT-4 I picked up for 6k. This little girl pulls like a freight train! It's completely different than the Yaris. I'll be setting it up for time attack runs under the ICSCC and NASA formats. I've got the girl in storage until I get enough bolt on parts for a reason to take it out to test.
I've got a neat little oiling mod I need to take the valve cover off for, a custom painted catch can and check valve, Diablosport iTune to install, 1025cc rescaled injectors and a special tune for the DSI.
Gotta get an NGK AFX and replace the stater to complete the first of five phases. I have a whole mind map...extensive mind map that takes this little car down to 2600 lbs and the ability to go up to 590 ponies with the little 5558 snail and some hotter go juice (with some headwork, oiling mods, and perhaps some bottom end work as well).
There's A LOT more to this, believe that. You'll see a neat transformation over the next two years.

I think investing numerous amounts of money on audio upgrades on a yaris is too much considering its not a muscle car or a collectors car unless maybe your car is ONLY a show car with thropies to show (meaning its not street legal). Yaris is unique considering it has potential to be a tuner car however, the only difference you will see in performance is putting in a turbo. Externally it has the curves and once you drop it without having any camber issues it looks appealing.
The first upgrade I did on my car was the audio system. I took out the useless original yaris radio & side door speakers & put in a Sony System. I also have a MTX Magnum Audio MB212P Magna Bass Package, two 8-ohm 12" subs & 250-watt mono amplifier. The only speakers I left alone were the side speakers in the backseat & side speakers in the trunk because they audio contrast each other. I spent close to $600 on everything & Im very satisfied with I have, but I do have a HATCHBACK not a Sedan (sound waves). I think wasting any more than $600 on a max $15,000- $17,000 new 07 yaris would be ridiculous!! Correct me if im wrong, but thats my opinon.

i am sure some really don't care what you think when it comes to personalizing ones care and your small budget to spend on a yaris . yes they sell for a lot less than others cars and do the job as good or better without the heavy cost and maintenance of others cars . i did not spend 15000 for my new yaris it was 13800 out the door its a great car and i have improved it greatly in the areas i feel that were needed for my own taste . i say different strokes for different folks i feel you statements offend some people like me as you can tell . least your were smart enough to join the best site on the internet for the yaris's

Admittedly my audio investment was nearly the value of the car. Where did the investment get me? Contacts DEEP in the 12 volt world and at the time, the best sounding Yaris in the world according to IASCA.
Now I've moved on to something a little more personally rewarding.

Would love to check out your SRT-4 Sqcomp!
I invested in my Yaris enough to make it sound really good. And it's not a waste it's pure pleasure every day and I would do it in any car that I own.
Yaris performance I know, it's only 106 HP but modifying the suspension makes me take corners and ramps like a sport car and leave others behind, around here you can't really go 10-15 mph past speed limit. )o:
There is a kid that has (2) 15" Kicker Solo-Baric woofers with 1000 watts in his Jeep Cherokee, it's LOUD! but... one day brought him into the Yaris... he almost sells away his woofers that day, His system might be LOUD but when you are in the sweet spot it's like heaven!
If I ever get to own a Mercedes Benz or BMW I would move my system into any other car and make it sound good.
BTW I pay nothing for my Yaris, I had an old 97' Tacoma and it was rusted, Toyota gave me enough to pay for the Yaris.
No bad feelings around here pure LOVE to our cars.

Thanks,
Yeah! the 3" Mids are in the kick area, they play almost as a Point Source and responsible for most of the Sound Stage running from 250 Hz to 6.3 kHz. They play a very important roll with Time Alignment T/A and when it comes to Left & Right EQ the location and aiming it's critical. Inside a car reflections are terrible.

I hate to say it but the Yaris sounds so good that I want everybody to listen to it, but at the same time I feel selfish and rather just keep it for my self, I enjoy every track, old or new, Rap or Classic.
My next little project is RTA for left and right ear and me sitting at the sweet spot, call me crazy but I love it.

Heads up, if you're going to compete IASCA next year, make it happen. I attended the finals again this year...as a spectator this time. It was good to see everyone on the West Coast team with some new additions.
The bottom line is, the cars haven't become "better". There's only so much you can do to certain platforms. I'm here to tell you, the potential of the Yaris hasn't been fully realized yet.
What you need to do is not get your P99 to die the night before finals and get better than 4th in the world in Pro/Am. Then you top me...I know you can do it...I want you to do it mang...

If one had more space to listen, like a room, the height wouldn't be so much of a factor.
The bit one was very easy to learn and operate. Audison is making it better and better with all the add on values like Bit Tune. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again...DO NOT modify the piece!!! I cannot stress this enough. There is no reason to modify it. That modification of the Bit One cost me a world championship and I'll never forgive the team for not informing me of the near 100% failure rate of the modded pieces...I found that out the hard way.
Just one of the several reasons I'm not with Team Hybrids anymore. Good ethics are completely foreign to the team leadership and brand ownership.

I was curious as to why not running a huge patch of dynamat or imitation dynamat across areas (covering all but tubes in doors, etc.) ? Instead you had small patches here and there...Curious ?
On another note, (I want to dynamat know my doors for obvious reasons), but before I did, I wanted to let you (and others) that I put two cans of 3M undercoating on my underside (floor pans/ metal parts of wheel wells) with dramatic noise deadening improvement. For an even better coat, let dry and hit with two more cans. (I am just going with 2 for now), until I get my speakers and dynamat and see what that does for it, sound deadening wise.

Depending on your goal, trying to minimize road noise or deadening your car for big BASS system.
If minimizing road noise is your goal, it's better to use a thick material what I call CLD Tiles (to control reverberations) only require 25-30% of coverage from a flat metal area + a Layer of CCFoam and a Layer of MLV. (that is good to block road noise)
If your goal is controlling rattles from big BASS Subwoofers, then complete layers of Mat are the way to go, but if you overdue you'll find your self inside a big box like a guitar box where YES you block the road noise and control rattles but the reverberation will create other noises, just like inside a guitar.
I did a combination of both where in some areas I'm aiming at blocking noise (road noise) and some other areas to prevent rattles from the BASS.
Take in mind that a system of CLD Tiles (only covering 30% of the metal flat surface) + CCFaom + MLV is about the same as 3 or 4 layers of MAT when your goal is Blocking Road Noise.
Here is a good source of information regarding Deadening just follow the LINK (http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/)

In other words when I put small patches means that I'm covering 30% of a flat metal area to control reverberations, as part of a system to block road noise.

It's getting cold , 30s at night and 60s during the day, humidity, pressure and changes in temperature; weather conditions change so does the the tuning...
So I've been spending some time on the tuning department, yes the weather changes the stage a little bit, mine brings it a little closer to me and towards the left. Some tuning is necessary to compensate these atmospheric changes.
I can't believe the stage I bring to the car, makes the Yaris feel so big!

Honestly, Honestly, Honestly, ... :w00t:
Everyone who has heard my Yaris before including and specially the guy at NY who has been 1st place twice at that event would drop their jaws if they hear it again, Even "Me" I do it every day, the more songs I play the more I realize how good has turn into. (but I do realize that there is more to learn and it can get much better). There is always some one or something better if not dozens...
Going to that show was my opportunity to know what I should be going after, most of the systems there shoot for Tonality, Left, center and right stage, at least that was the impression I got, Even the other guy from Massachusetts he heard my car a few weeks after the competition and he was stunning on the depth and width of the Yaris (thinking the judges had no clue of what they where thinking about my Yaris (size matters here, the judges where way taller than me, putting the sweet spot away from their ears, not their falt))
There is a track where a guy speaks on the stage and starts on the center and then walks to the left and rear of the stage, then goes to the right side and so on, according to this guy from Mass. when playing this track inside the Yaris the speaker starts walking to the rear-left to the stage he claims that in the Yaris the width and depth just keeps going and going way to the back. (I know it does, I work so hard to accomplish this)
But wasn't after all that when I picked up about the reflections on the windows and how my issues with ques I overcome. Then I played with RTA and my learning experience jumped up; SQ-Systems I would say it's not for everybody, I can tell how my ear's perception and the way I listen now is so different than most people, I love this hobby I really do.
Last competitions they had about 25 participants and most of the same people was the same as previews events, and according to my friend who was there just a couple of guys had really good systems.
I'm just going to keep learning and enjoying my car as much as I can. Winter is around the corner and I already miss summer.
BTW  I'm getting a new little toy to play with my iPhone it's a little Microphone specially designed for the iPhone and run a RTA will report later this week.

derickveliz2

Besides the difference in specs between subs I would share that you can make any subwoofer sound/feel great! with a proper installation and tuning.
Yes their are better woofers than others, and some work better with your current car conditions and system, it's a matter of trial and error, but you can still use some science to accomplish good BASS.
Take in mind your goal, if you want to share your music with your neighborhood or for your self. Many years ago I had a car with two 12" in ported boxes, you could hear/feel my car 3 or 4 blocks away!!!
Now putting that into perspective...
My little 6" subwoofer sounds and feels 100 X better than my two 12's did "inside" the car.

You should really look for an SQ car (a good one) and get a demo.
I get people drooling about my little 6" woofer after they hear it, like I said before even the IASCA judge was impressed. The key feature here is once you get a good approach to recreate the "Natural" sound of the recorded music not only in the subwoofer area the outcome it's awesome.
But I understand your point of view and I also understand that to do all these a good digital sound processor is need it, so in some cases 'yes' more is better.
I suggest you to read and learn as much as possible from your subwoofers, there are good people out here that can suggest a good match between subs, enclosure and watts. And set a goal but remember there is no cooking instructions on what works best, even a single click on the EQ would make a woofer sound good or really bad. It's about testing, trying and trying again and again. Every car it's different, even our ears are so different, what sounds good for you may not sound good for others.
Just go for it! don't be afraid to experiment.

The P99 it's a DSP it self, and many others like Bit-One, Mosconi has one too, Audio Control, JBL MS-8, even Alpine and many more.... they could get very expensive though (average $1k). but I'm not your best sales guy. I like the P99 because it's all in one and works really good.
With a DSP there many functions that let you control, like:
-Levels
-Cross Over points
-Slopes
-HPF
-LPF
-Phase
-Time Alignment
-Left + Right Equalization
-and more... But these are the ones I really like!
They are small like a HU and/or big as a small amp.

I'd sell the kit for $25 plus shipping perhaps.
I should start making these kits for people. Some of the grounding kits that we see sold for much more deliver a lot less value.
It's interesting how a lot of vehicle manufacturers are leaning toward the 2.0 liter engine. I'm seeing caddy use the 2 liter turbo as well as Merc...

No fuse between the alternator and (+) terminal of the battery?
Also, unprotected large gauge positive wire under the hood looks kinda dangerous
Here is how I did mine http://photo.qip.ru/users/tolmach/96608749/126157568/#mainImageLink

None of the DIY I checked for Big 3 had a fuse, it worked for me.
My Big 3 it's gauge 0, and on your pictures shows something that looks like gauge 4, not sure if it's better or not.
What do you mean with "unprotected"? that red and transparent plastic over the wires is really thick, and protects the wires very good, I don't see anything wrong.

What TOLMACH is referring to is the live posi wire if you ever get into a wreck that knocks the battery and/or wires loose.
It's an even easier fix than spending the money that he did for the car audio fuse and holder. You can go to any auto parts store and buy a heavier Amperage fusible link. That will allow you to run it inline like TOLAMCH did yet have just as much fusible protection as you need and have a smaller sillouette versus using the car audio fuse solution.
Note, either works.
As for "unprotected"...that's a bit of a stretch. Like D mentioned, the clear sleeving offered from the wire itself is usually sufficient in the Yaris engine bay. Techflex, like what TOLMACH, is using is purely for looks. The techflex offers no true protection other than an easily melted layer of more plastic. I mean really...you use a hot knife to properly terminate the ends...

The good thing everything went well, in theory I could tell that the Yaris was sold in less than 5 hrs, the guy I sold it to was the first one to contact me just a few hours after I posted in Craigslist.
Reminds me when I sold my Motorcycle it was gone fast.
I have a bunch of little things left that I may post for sale, the OZ Ultraligera black wheels for example... more info later I'm just way overwhelm now.
Good night. Zzzzzzzzz

The caveat to the HAT thing is that you need to buy more HAT gear.
As for the idea that HAT "depreciates" any more than any other main line manufacturer, that is ludicrous and unfounded. There's something else behind that statement.
...I raise that flag having left HAT and car audio competition under less than amicable circumstances and having no love for the brand's owner and his sidekick. But the idea of HAT speakers being worth less simply is untrue.

I don't want to give up any of my luggage space (including the spare wheel), so I have only the space behind the passenger side glove box and the cavity under the passenger side seat.
What do you recommend?
I am aware that the efficiency of such a small box might be lousy, but I am willing to compensate this with some more watts :D

Yea we should try to get together again and you can walk me through putting it in. I am pretty sure I have everything I could possibly need, Sqcomp sent me an entire wire factory along with the deck. I just need to also buy an inexpensive amp for the stock speakers. Although my local Subaru dealer is getting a STi Launch edition in, maybe if I fake some numbers he would sell it to me. =)

You won't like me if I tell you.
It's too bad we're on opposite sides of the country. I'd love the chance to roll out and help.
Where and how do you fit this in?
I don't want to give up any of my luggage space (including the spare wheel), so I have only the space behind the passenger side glove box and the cavity under the passenger side seat.
What do you recommend?
I am aware that the efficiency of such a small box might be lousy, but I am willing to compensate this with some more watts :D
(and I have about 300ft of almost AWG 5 at hand :headbang: )
Derrick had it in the left part of the passenger foot well. Now I am 6'2" and over 300, and I still could easily fit in the passenger seat with zero spacial issues.
The thing does sound wondrous, and likes tons of power too.

That would be awesome. I've tried to get a couple people to help me, it just didn't happen. I'd be the type of person to figure out how to wire the head unit and turn the car into a grenade. Supposedly impossible, yet I'd mess it up in that way. It will happen, and it will be awesome.

I'm going to be in Dartmouth next week, I'll let you know!
The Big 3 is gone, I still have the 10" Bazooka
The Hybrid subwoofer with custom enclosure for the front of the Yaris (I saw your PM, this little one does play low, but it won't play loud enough so your neighbors would feel it)
I have the 3" Mids Hertz HL-70
and... I'll have to check downstairs and report back.

You're reminding me that I need to take the speakers out of my SRT.
*sigh*
All I need to hear in that car is the turbo and the exhaust note.
I'm getting the itch to put that 15" back in the Yaris though. I like big bass and I cannot lie...
Oooh! Speaking of big bass, I now have a personal "in" at Digital Designs in OK. This should be a fun contact to use over time.

Speaking of Turbo... this little CLA drives very mellow in E mode but when you switch to S and step on the gas, wait for 1/2 second the Turbo kicks in and the double clutch gearbox transform this little puppy into a beast! it's like day and night! and the exhaust tone it's wonderful! It's very impressive for only 200 hp, compare to the CLS with 450 hp.
I can't imaging how good your SRT is, it should be awesome!
About DD, where can I get more informtion about the w6.5 like sensitivity, internal volume need it if installed in a sealed box, etc... I'm looking for midwoofer options to match a pair of ID Horns, I was going to buy a pair of 18sound 6ND430 4 Ohm LINK (http://www.usspeaker.com/eighteensound-6ND430-1.htm) but this one is good for the door or in kick area but vented outside in IB configuration.

That's why I was so jazzed about the idea of an AMG! You have a nice advantage...you now have a vehicle that is really two cars in one (a daily and a sports).
Which woofer was that again? Hybrid or Digital Designs?

They're treating me well =]. I'm flying out to Seattle this week and when I come back, the spacers are going on. Along with the spacers, casual maintenance like spark plugs, new bulbs, and a car wash are in order. Hopefully in the next month or two, new suspension ;)

Oh yeah! The 6.5...
I have never used them. That being said, Jim has mentioned that they're formidable to say the least. I should buck up and put a pair of them in the Yaris doors. Although taking out the Voce coaxials is pulling at my soul.
I could re install some tweeters into the sail panels. I have the big S4b I could use to power that setup.
anyone want to take some Audison Voce X6 coaxials off my hands? I'm down for experimenting with the DD's for Derick...

D,
Heads up...I'm talking with Jim right now. I may trade him my ML3800 for all four DD speakers (the two W6.5's and two AT28 tweeters) working off the crossovers on the S4b I have.
I may put the dual 8" sub enclosure in the car again to keep up with the mids...
If the mid woofers pass the "sqcomp" SQ test I'll work with you to get you a pair.
OH! Do you remember ever talking with Aaron at the shop? He is now working for DD in OKC! If you even need help with DD, you have an "in" with the company.

Thanks!
I do have some issues in the CLA to resolve first.
1.- Where to put the P99, under the dash??, above the center console??, I don't know for sure???
2.- If I go with Horns, I may have to go with Mini Horns, because the Airbags, foot heating ducts, OBD connector and hood opener
3.- Worst case scenario I swap the P99 for a Bit 10 or similar and use OEM head unit with OEM Door speakers and Sail OEM Tweeters (I don't really want to go this way)
My goals are:
1.-Keep it simple and stock look if possible
2.-if I sell or trade later it should be an easy task to uninstall
3.-I would like to try a pair of Horns.
4.-I would like to use the P99
5.-Use Door speakers as Midbass woofer
6.-Possibility to use OEM tweeters at sailpanels even if going with Horns
7.-IDQ12 is going IB in the Trunk
8.-Use only 2 Amps and they go in the Trunk... ID (175x2) and PB 5.1 (75x4+200x1)
and Finally if YW doesn't want me to talk about my new build in here, please let me know and I'll just plug a LINK.
Thanks again!

Derick can that P-99 go in the glove box ? That interior looks pretty darn tight.
Does the factory unit have any sort of Auxiliary ? You're going to need to still access your factory unit on a regular basis....i wouldn't recommend messing with any of it.
If this is the way your interior looks :

What does the lil compartment under your temp gauges look like ? does it easily pop out ?

I thought about the glove box, but too small
No Auxiliary from factory
I rather leave the OEM system alone and have a complete separate one
Yes that is the interior of the CLA

Do a bit ten. Save the p99 for later.
That bit ten is smaller than the deck and will allow you to keep the factory look which is nice.
As for the w6.5, we have a limitation. The frequency response is 60-300 Hz. I'm looking at the AW6.5 right now with Jim. I'll keep you in the loop.

The thing i'm wondering on that amp(cadence) is could you wire the speakers as well as run them wirelessly. So they could be hooked up to the factory deck (wired) p-99 (wirelessly) ?
Would a hi lo (LOC) put out a clean signal or would any sq be sacrificed ?

Okay...The BT is refrencing your phone. The speakers themselves won't be wireless.
That being said...there is a way to make it wireless, sort of. It's not worth the time except in home audio applications IMHO.
Could the P99 fit in the armrest? I saw a build a long time ago where the builder kept everything looking stock, and could even run off of the stock head unit, but he had a switch with the good head unit and cd changer hidden in the arm rest.

oK, Lets talk "Bit Ten"
-Only good for a 2 way + Subwoofer right?
-I can plug 2 sets (4 channel) of channels into Bit Ten... Front door speakers and front tweeters to get the signal from the MB head unit (MB=Mercedes Benz) the Bit Ten is going to de-equalize and then provide 3 channels out like L+R Midbass, L+R Tweeter, + Subwoofer
-Does the Bit Ten has Left and Right EQ?
-An finally... how much it costs?

1- too small won't fit )o:
2- you really need to see the face of the deck specially when tuning, that means in "your regular driving position", when tuning you can't turn your head or move.

Cost? 300-400. It's more effective than any analog piece from the 80-90s to be honest. You have the ability to see the entire crossover and EQ layout, the ability to make adjustments on the fly while seeing and hearing the effect pretty much instantly. You have time alignment as well. In the setup of the PC program, it should ask if you are using a two or three way.
I can have Jim call you if you'd like.
