Here's something from one of the old school car audio OGs, Richard Clark, in 2001:
"Tweeters are expensive, and I’m sure that there’s nothing more frustrating than purchasing a pair of $200 tweeters and having one of them destroyed. Tweeters, and especially horn drivers, are extremely sensitive and fragile. One common failure mode for tweeters in systems with electronic crossovers is failure to provide protection from unintentional low frequency transients. Woofers have been known to move great distances when amplifiers are turned on or turned off or a RCA comes partly unplugged, but what about the tweeters?
If the tweeter is fed from a passive crossover, it will naturally be protected from this phenomenon. But, what if it’s attached directly to a monster amp? Since tweeters were not designed to move more than a few thousandths of an inch, what happens when they get popped by an amplifier? The answer is that they typically suffer from suspension fatigue and become permanently damaged. There’s no remedy for damaged tweeters, and they will produce constant distortion until they are replaced.
Simply plugging and unplugging an RCA lead from an active crossover or an amplifier driving a tweeter will often cause a potentially damaging pop. The pop in a tweeter may not always be audible, but the damage will occur electro-mechanically. (This is one of the reasons that a couple of Japanese amplifier designs included a feature that required a chassis ground connection to the RCA connector before the amplifier would engage.) There is no reason to put tweeters at such risk because the necessary safety precautions are both inexpensive and easy to install.
To protect a tweeter, a bi-polar crossover capacitor should be inserted in series with the + terminal. (It really doesn’t matter, but let’s be consistent.) This “safety” capacitor will block dangerous pops and spikes, yet, it will permit the audio to pass.
For example, let’s say we’re using a crossover point of 2000 Hz on a tweeter with an impedance of 4 ohms (at 2000 Hz). One-half of 2000 Hz yields an f of 1000 Hz. Solving for C, we arrive at 40 mfd (39.8 mfd if you’re a math buff) for our safety cap. Remember, electrolytic caps can be used as long as they’re bypassed properly. Again, polystyrene film capacitors should be used for bypassing. If this is done correctly, the safety cap will have no affect on sound as it’s too low to have any audible effect, but if any low frequencies slip by they will be removed before they can cause damage. A tweeter safety cap sort of acts like a “subsonic filter” does for a woofer, only it works at the frequencies that are troublesome to tweeters.
That’s it for this issue. I’ve been using these techniques in studio and pro audio applications for decades, and they’ve saved me many times. I hope that you’ll consider including small bypass and safety capacitors in your next system. Someday the tweeter you save may be your own!

Busy as you can tell.
I'm laying down another set of kick panels. This time I'm re-aiming and going to try to incorporate the raw carbon fiber weave I purchased. I may incorporate the leftover Kevlar weave as well into the kicks for the mid range speakers.
Going to power up the horn's compressor, wrap the mounting panel for the compressor and the tank, and do more A-pillar buildup on Monday.

Just laid the back and baffle of the driver's side kick in kevlar reinforced with 1.5 oz mat. I'll be trimming and laying some more kevlar tomorrow as well on that left side kick.
Interesting material. It's good for some points in IQc because of exotic materials.
I've got some CF weave mat I'm going to look at using on the kicks somehow. I'll figure that out when I get there.
...and yes, I have pics. I just want to get a little further before I post them...

I saw a video of Scott B. and his Nissan Altima talking about exotic materials, mmm what if I bring from Central America some hard wood from the deep rain forest? this stuff is expensive and hard like a rock.

Those caps will only cost $13 and some change. It's a pair of 30 microfarad and a .01 microfarad that helps alleviate what RC called the ripple effect IIRC.
Order them, send them my way and I can put the special treatment on them to make them a little more high speed if you want and get them back to you all snazzy like...if you want or I can just guide you on how I'm prepping mine with a little "tutorial"/picture guide.
As for the exotic hardwood, where are you going to fit it in that would earn you creativity points? I can think of several items that could have exotic wood used but i'd rather hear your thoughts first.

Exotic materials... mmm all baffles instead of using MDF (L6's, Mids, and Tweeters) Also would like to make a custom grill made of an exotic material for the L6's with the HAT logo. I asked Scott B. if that was ok, he sent me a file with the official logo that I can use.

BTW
We are having a meet with guys from DIYMA next week Saturday May 26th at 1 P.M. in West Boylston, MA.... every body is welcome!
Here is the info:
Saturday May 26th at 1 P.M. West Boylston, MA
It's around the corner from the Stone Church in West Boylston Ma.
There will be a Green Alien out by the road to help you find the spot.

a green alien? lol.
So I hopped over on to the HAT forums and saw Scott's car build thread. First post made me laugh considering what it is now.Audio is going to be VERY simple... (http://www.buwaldahybrids.com/forum/showthread.php?17674-New-Project-Car-to-Introduce-Scott-s-G35) If that is what he does to a car for a very simple audio system I wonder what his idea is of complex.:bellyroll:
I think I am going to take a stroll to CTScott's that day unfortunately, but if not I might visit you Derick. My coilovers should be on correctly and I need a nice long drive.

The G35 is a relatively simple install. Think about that G35 install versus Black Betty. BB is definitely a more advanced install.
I've been able to have hands on time with both cars. The G is made for a realistic every day driving situation. BB on the other hand...it's a dedicated show car with a much different sound stage presence.
The G35 was an interesting car to demo for people at SBN this year. It has it's quirks like a normal car would. That being said for a car without tweeters and on all D class amplifiers, it works very well. Well enough to win another world championship.

Some things I've been thinking about it...
Some time ago I fell in love with Time Alignment,
lately I'm drooling Left & Right EQ.
My Midbass love  the Subwoofer they compliment each other.
My Mids sound so insignificant... though that's where all the magic happens!
Windshield, screws me up with hundreds of reflections.
Some extra Power from amps make every thing happen.
Deadening and Blocking road/engine noise pays off for a confi. ride
I still tend to tune for the road... isn't that awkward but at the same time makes sense for a long commuter.
A big help for my ears and body to understand how a track should sound like..
Reference! I got my kids a set of drums, now I know how it should sound! We got a big old Piano, and I'm trying to listen to live music as much as I can.
And something I don't do any more... speak on my cell phone without speaker mode, I'm try to avoid the phone over one ear at a time. Sounds stupid but keeps my ears balanced.
Also I'm trying to stay away from earphones! the feeling of the center image going through my head is not what I want/like.
Avoid LOUD music or noise for a long extended period of time.
A song becomes a Good a song when it's well recorded no matter what song is it.
Talking about songs, the other day I was struggling to get the big bass drum
to be right on the center of the stage, until I watched the video from youtube
on my phone and playing a very well recorded track at the same time, guess
what! I found out the big bass drum IS slightly to the right.
- Now every thing makes sense!

The only reason I use headphones is to get an idea of tonality.
I'll echo the song to good song thought regarding the recording process.
Extra power makes the difference...now you know why I'm doing what I am with my surfboard amplifiers.
What's wrong with the windshield? :) I relish in reflections! For some reason in my setup it just doesn't sound right unless I'm off axis. It's a phase thing for me.

Agree! Tonality is a big factor and hard to accomplish, good call.
Power? YES more power please, it's not about how LOUD is going to be, it's like a car on the highway! if you want to pass a car you don't need to shift down if you have the Torque and HP. My 2 examples... 1st with MidBass I started with 60watts then 100watts but when I end up with 175watts they just play beautiful.
2nd The SubWoofer... I started with 250watts, it was ok and impressive, but when feeding the i6SW with 400watts it just came a live! I completely forgot it's just a 6.5 inch driver.
Tweeters and reflections... Comparing the Mids with Tweeters the Mids was way much easier to center the image, but with the tweeters I could tell that reflections where doing funny stuff with the center image and width of the stage. In one of the methods I used with the Tweeters, where I turn the volume way down and change the x-over point to 800hz because at 2kHz and above, our ears use amplitude not phase and time to determine location. So to hear the movement, I needed a lower x-over point.
Don't ask me where or how I got to this point but reading and searching I found this method very interesting and I gave it a try, and as I was doing it I noticed the difference of movement compared to the Mids. But for any install I bet it's a challenge to control and be successful at the same time.
But Yes I guess at some point we are using reflections in our favor.
BTW,,,, after work my little Yaris was compared to a brand new C350, details later...

If I ever sell my amps, I'll give you have the first look. :) Want POWER? I've got it in spades.
I hear you on the sub. It's funny for me. I've moved from an awesome 15" in my ML3800 to a dinky (relative to the ML) 8" ID. The thing is, for what I'm doing, the smaller and tighter enclosure in the cabin loaded off the floor seems to be magic for me. I've got a plan for a rear console setup later this year to plug in the ID8 and then eventually the Legatia 13 to downfire onto the floor.
That loading is a FUN. I should really send you a copy of mine so you can plug it in and listen. The other nice thing is that it can be used in home audio applications as well.
We should trade enclosures for a month just to experience what each other is hearing.

The DIYMA meet was great!
I help my friends tuning and giving them ideas to how to improve their systems, of course the little Yaris was a success.
The guy with the white GTI went back home with a big smile on his face, after I did some magic tuning his system
(I just moved his x-over points, centering his image with T/A, leveled the gains and re-aim tweeters). And still he has a lot of room for improvements!
How was the Autocross and CTScott's meet?

This comes from one of the DIYMA members who was at the meet! he had a great center image but it was a little narrow and too close to the listeners!
" I was impressed with the depth of your stage it seemed to extend out beyond the windshield.
I've been scratching my head trying to think about how I will fix my new problem of having the stage on the dash and not on the front bumper like yours."

Come on man...the Yaris I have now.
I keep my ideas of cars purpose specific for the most part. I have a drive to build my own car one of these days. I'm also a fan of road course racing. How to combine the two AND make it street legal? Ultimate GTR. Thank you very much. Give me a small block Chevy and a sequential gearbox and I'm set... For $60k. 200+ MPH AND affordable? Sahweet!
that's expensive. The factory five kit they just released looks great and is so much less expensive.http://www.factoryfive.com/kits/project-818/
They say you can have the full car for under $18k.

^I'm skeptical. Let's take the cost of the donor. For safety, get a fully running donor in good shape. Then add the kit cost.
I'm NOT saying that it's not more affordable...
What I'm looking at with cost on my idea is the engine...a N/A small block Chevy at 650 HP, that can be run day in and day out. I'm not going to worry about all the plumbing associated with a T/C engine. I know how "fun" the T/C engines are...I used to own one before my Yaris. At 2000 lbs, I'm only a couple hundred pounds more than the Factory Five kit AND it's proven to 200+ MPH and is at the top of the Top Gear performance list. It's not a Can-Am that I'm looking at like the Factory Five design. I like a closed cockpit design myself. I also don't have to deal with a donor car, I build it from scratch parts specifically made for the car itself.

Yeah I didn't think the Ultima would please your sound quality desires but it does in other ways!
D.
I agree that a full hard top would be better, but I strongly disagree you would need to buy a full donor car. The WRX/STi aftermarket is gigantic, you could easily pick and choose any pieces you need, without ever owning a full car.
I've never been a fan of V-8's. Just not my thing. A turbo Supra still would be my favorite. Straight six and as much hp as you really could ever want. The top ones put out 1200+. Or if I could stuff a EVO 4g64 into an awd eclipse I'd do that. I just love the designs of the old gen awd eclipses.
I think for a full sq sound car something like a Lexus IS F or a Infinity G coupe. Or of course an Audi or BMW or something like that. Mostly because anything in the luxury range will already come with a ton and a half of dampening.

I hear you on the 6-cylinder thing. Just a fan of the 8's...more potential on all levels as I see it. It'll take less involvement on an 8 for me to see a 600+ HP normally aspirated...no lag, no loss. Fuel? That's something else. The whole idea of the Ultima is just for a weekender/track day car that can be driven on the street and that can lay down some serious lap times compared to the exotics for a heck of a lot less coin.
As for picking...you still have to pick. Regardless of where you get it. That will cost. Yes, it will probably be less than 60K though, admittedly. More like 30-40 I'm thinking. There's just something about a rolex series type car with a nice 8 in it that floats my boat.
SQ car? not without some serious modification...I wouldn't do that.

OK, I'm going to need help! (advice)
I'm trying to dig in the tweeter in the a-pillar into the metal, so how do I cut a round circle there? I did a few holes with a small bit just to check I get the clearance in the back and there are no structural members.
Why I'm doing this? is because I'm physically moving the tweeter's position by 3.5 inches forward and almost 2 inches towards the left side, I'm loosing about 3-4 inches of height but I did try the tweeter and stage still up high, so that I don't mind, but...
the fact that the stage got wider and deeper from actual location the end result it's very satisfactory, so I really would like to sink in this tweeter there, any advice is welcome! I guess I need a special tool?
These pictures show the left a-pillar and the round wood peace represents the circle I want to cut away:

How were you cutting the hole? That angle is tricky because of the glass.

I was thinking of making a series of holes around the perimeter then try to trim the imperfections with a dremel, but it's so hard to do each hole. I was hopping to find a good tool that would make my life easier.

Why not just use a hole saw.. It looks like there is enough room to get a drill in there..

That proposed hole is VERY close to the glass...that's the challenge. Know that the hole is only the size of a tweeter. Can a right angle adaptor give enough torque to drive a hole saw?
The dremel idea may be the best at the moment.
:) whadyamean you can't angle a sawzall in there?!? :)

well aslong as there is no glass directly behind you're proposed hole, drill a centered pilot hole, and the hole saw will stay perfectly on line.. Ive seen one drift when dont that way..
But i get the hesitation.. I guess the dremel probably is the way you would wanna go..
And if you do try the sawzall, please get it on video!!!! haha

Some thing like a hole saw mentioned above is what I had in mind, Yes a dremel may be the power tool, now because of the angle of the a-pillar the dremel will not be exactly perpendicular to the cut, I hope that would not be an issue.
I'll stop by tomorrow at the local store and see if I can find a hole saw that fits the size of the hole that I need.
Thanks

It's not the bit I'm concerned with in using a hole saw that close to the glass...
If you think a dremel is too big, a drill body is massive...one needs to get the hole saw bit straight on just like the dremel. Can you squeeze yourself into a good place on that dash to hit the pillar straight on with either option?

OK, this was so EASY, just like a hot knife on butter! best $15 bucks spent.
Now I have left tweeter as far forward and far to the left I possible can! I gain 5 inches and that's a lot! the distance from my left ear to tweeter now is 48" it used to be 43".
Stage is wider and deeper already!
Probably 5 inches sound meaningless, but you should hear the difference that it makes.

The aiming axis at that point will only have a minor effect. The gain Derick has from physical location is going to override the angle for the most part. What I'm going to be interested to see is how the mounting is integrated with the a pillar.
I see that mount is deep...really deep in there. What say you Derick? This may be a good experiment for horn loading...

Yeah me too! I'm thinking about cutting a big section (hole) in the lower part of the a-pillar and build up a big open horn shape from the tweeter's base to the opening of the a-pillar, I'm not sure how to accomplish that, but I'll dig into it.
D.

Yes will deaden the area, I will use a thin sheet of wood/balsa wood or even MLV as baffle into the metal.

Baffling into the metal...I wish I could be out there with you to help. I think between the two of us we could make this happen REALLY quickly.
*sigh*
Using some substrate you can drill into using the L1v2's mounting holes. I'm thinking even a 1/4" pan head would be fine and not kick too far into the metal depending on the thickness of the substrate.
I'd say make a couple rings out of balsa that are juuuuusssst slightly larger than the outer diameter of the tweeter and then reverse the technique we've used to make the original pillars. Build in instead of out.
Thoughts?

Got to mention that mean while I'm working on the a-pillars for the tweeters I've gone tweeter less, and with some tuning sounds so good. Not as good like a full 3way system but not bad at all.

The sail panel width is nice. With certain tracks you have width out into the mirrors. The height is nice like Derick mentioned. If you play the mids to far in one direction (frequency) you get some bad localization. That can also be mitigated with the crossover adjustments (slopes and points). It's about the tune for amplitude and the imaging now...
What people have to remember is that a great tune doesn't happen in an hour. It takes some of these top competitors hundreds of hours in some cases to get it to their liking.

Now I realized everything that I was missing, it's a pleasure to go through each song and test track, feel and almost see every single detail, just by the fact that I don't listen to my speakers I just can't hear the speakers, the sound most of the time is coming from the windshield, like magic, like a ghost ; some times I get a little "WOW!" what was that? and I guess I'm a big fan of a phenomenon known as the “precedence effect” or Haas effect..

ok, there is a song in spanish, called "Todos queremos mas" LINK (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFfDm5pWrCk) and talks about how we WANT MORE AND MORE!
so I guess that is why we never finish our projects!
Some one in other forum, is going to donate me a i6SW so I can try to ply 2 woofers up front (I'll give it back after and get my own)
but for the mean time I want to play:
"I want more BASS!"
Ok, so today I added my IDQ12 woofer to my system, I had "Y" RCA connectors and split the signal of the subwoofer, I put the woofer in the back seat and control it with a my PB amp so I can filter everything above 40 Hz and let the 12" woofer play only the LOW notes.
First impression was terrible, Phase issues, so I switch the wires from the 12" Sub (IDQ12) indeterminately I felt that extra BASS but even pushing Time Alignment and with all the power of the front stage + the i6SW I can tell it's coming from the back, and it's not a lot better, for a nice Sound Quality point of view the gain on the amp to the IDQ12 is very little, I can bump it up until the car shakes but no more SQ at that point.
end of the story... that extra little BASS coming from the back is not what I like.

a square box is too big and may block my MIDs but I just want to try the 10" woofer.
Once I get second i6SWs the box for 2, is going to be around 0.7 cf so it's going to be a good challenge! we'll see how it goes!

Well after 600+ miles with the IDQ12 in the rear seat and some adjustments it can work pretty good! I know it's not a fare comparison but due to the power I'm using, location and enclosure types! if I had to give numbers would be like this:
IDQ12 = 10/10
i6SW = 9/10
Yes the extra little boost on bass that the IDQ12 provides is very little (about 3db or 10% more bass boost), Now I can boost the i6SW alone and perform the same way or even better than the IDQ12, with the exception of Super Loud music. The i6SW doesn't like to blow your ears and nose like the IDQ12 but I'm not that kind of guy any more. If I could get the IDQ12 up front would be another story. but I can't. And the i6SW is working AWESOME in the BASS department, That is way I'm going to try 2 of these babies!
I really like my music to feel the BASS from down all the way up in a BOLD way; what I mean is I like to feel the BASS even when the volume is low, Moderate, and High (not Super High).
I heard many systems that at low and moderate volume there is not a good BASS, you have to crank it up to feel the BASS, I'm naive here but maybe Sqcomp could tells us a little bit more about how is this issue treated in competitions.
Taking in mind that if I increase the gain on the IDQ12 Sound Quality goes away and SPL is Welcome, but the BASS starts coming from the back... and...
There is nothing more Natural that feeling all the BASS coming at you from the Stage!
The IDQ12 is out of the Yaris, I was getting a winding noise (very little but annoying to me) I guess all the extra RCAs running around were picking up that noise.

After taking out the IDQ12 today, I was playing Hotel California, Honestly....
What a virtual experience, I feel good when I don't have to adjust the BASS for each song! every thing just plays AWESOME! no matter what kind of music, just hit it!
The i6SW hits my chest in a way I just can't describe. I know 2 doesn't means Double but since I'm getting this second woofer for FREE, it's worth the effort!

I was about to say...that extra space in there is going bye-bye with a second woofer up front.
Would you be ditching the foam and the inserts under the carpet for a little more space?
I'm working on a center console idea after INAC next month.
In competition, there is a category of judging for linearity at the sub bass level. This is where we get detailed and picky. You could have GREAT sound at a low to moderate level but let's say your amplifier and sub don't mesh well because of power issues at high linearity...well, you get kicked down a couple points for it.
There's also the category of imaging, ambiance, and tonality. All are affected by the sub woofer at some level. It all blends really. If your bass is too overpowering, much like the dual DD1508 setup I messed with earlier this year, you get knocked down for it. That instance had a peaky enclosure with STOOOPID amounts of bass. I took the level down 12 dB at the source to try and tame the amplitude of the signal. I replaced that setup with the ID8 then dual ID8s. I don't know why I even considered a vented DD option (aside from flipping the bird to the SQ world for the hell of it).
There is one reason I'm not using a Hybrid Imagine woofer yet...actually two. One, I get better response from the sealed enclosure woofers and there's a Legatia 13 coming out in a few months that I get to play with.

No, I'm not going to remove anything under the carpet, MLV layer is above and rather keep the road noise away, and since it's only an experiment why bother now. If I really need the extra space I will, for sure.
Center console idea? interesting? but I can imagine it's going to be hard to accomplish. Expand please.
Thanks for the info about linearity at the sub bass level, I love to be picky in that department.
I know about the Legatia 13 coming soon, for now I get to play with 2-i6SWs I went to the post office today and there she was!

Just to expand more on this...
If every thing works in a positive way... I'm not only going to take out the inserts and foam... I'm thinking about cutting the metal floor and lowering it about 2 inches, then I can build a dual box for 2 i6SW's and rise the floor 1.5 inches.
Letting the vents breath the same way facing forward towards the center of the fire wall.
Just another crazy idea so I don't call this Build "Done!"

This is where the old fashioned idea of building a test enclosure so you can move things around and put the speakers in different places becomes really smart.
I did that with all my different subs in this car...especially after that phasing nightmare of placing the 15" in the rear right corner of the trunk and having at least a 3dB loss in out put no matter what I did with the phase. I think I doubled up on acoustic phase demons with that placement attempt.
I'd build a test enclosure shape pretty much as you have it in the picture. One question though, tell us about the ports and their locations. Why to the rear?

I agree, nothing better than trail & error for me.
Ports are aiming towards the firewall (like the one I have now), what you see as black ovals represent the i6SWs, not ports.

I've got to get you pics of the trunk. I just got slow tonight. I need to sling the gaps on the left side of the trunk. That'll take a few days to complete given my work schedule. The I get to play with the right side. That's a little more work since I made an exact shell of the OEM trunk lining. I've got to place the fiberglass panel in on the shell and then cut the extra glass on the form out from the back.
Then it's trimming and filling...then carpet. I've got to get this trunk done before the 17th...

Tomorrow evening both sides should look similar. It's interesting to me that the Yaris trunk set is a little off center. This was my first time attmepting this...you can tell.
With that being said, I see a lot of improvement on this in the future. I'd look for the Bit One to be placed on the left side soon. Of course I'm going to clean up that back board. The wiring is pissing me off with it going all over the place. Yuck! I'll move the tank up and left a little. The board will be carpeted and installed correctly. The other side holds the fusing...

I must say, you guys have really been doing some amazing stuff.
I had to catch up on this whole thread, took me awhile to read it all.
I see you have been working on so many of the finer details.
I was surprised to see Derick was running those small sub drivers. ( Those i6SW )
I thought is was also interesting to see you guys playing around with tweeter mounting angles in the A pillars and bouncing it off the windsheild. I was never a fan of aiming tweeters at the listener. I'm a fan of off-axis tweets. Tweets can be harsh anyway, why aim them at your face!
SQ: you are definately pro-level. Gratz on your work so far. I see about 4 or 5 of you guys on here that really take it to the next level. That's your "thing". I respect that.
You know me, I appreciate hi quality audio but never saw the sense in spending alot of money on a really high end car audio system, but if that's your hobby, nothing wrong with it.
After I did that modest system in my Yaris, I have been listening to it and living with it since you last seen me on here. I am about to make a few changes to it. It has been great, and I have been enjoying it, but it has a few minor issues that have been bugging me, and I will try to address them.
I am on step 3 and you guys are on step 1,249.
You guys put so much work into your systems. I see you are still fans of the HAT stuff.
SQ is going to laugh at me: one of the changes I am going to make to my system is I am ready to ditch that TypeR 10" sub in the slot-ported box. For my type of music, it just doesn't nail it. If I listened to rap, jazz, techno, hip-hop, or country... it would be okay. But it isn't really cut out to play the tight fast beats of power/prog metal.
As SQ once said, the TypeR is an SPL pig. I never forgot that. And you were right. I still say the TypeR is a great sub. I'm sure my box is more to blame than the sub itself. I could put a pair of TypeR tens in a sealed box and be happy with them. But they take alot of AMP to push them. They are power hungry, especially the new ones.
My other issue is ROAD NOISE. My Yaris is just too noisy. So I am going to try and do some sound deadening. Nothing fancy, just something that will help a little bit.
I know you guys are experts on this subject, so feel free to offer a suggestion or two. I would appreciate it.
Keep up the good work guys. I came back here just to see if you guys had actually FINISHED your cars, but as expected, you are still tweaking away on them! Always something else to do. Always a new trick, or a new piece of hardware huh.
SO, since I left, what has been the biggest challenge with your systems?
What is your favorite amps now? How much farther do you need to take your system to get them to where you want them to be?
Derick, what is YOUR goal? Are you going to compete with your Yaris?

I'm not a fan of that sub box on the front passenger floor.
I know exactly what you are trying to do, but that is a huge compromise.
You know how most people do it, they just overpower you with BASS so you can't really tell what direction it's coming from.
You guys are so focused on creating the perfect "sound stage".
In a large open room, it's pretty straightforward. In a car... it's a whole different story.
I wouldn't even want to try and tackle it.
But I guess that's the whole challenge of car audio SQ competition, isn't it.

AM - I completely understand wanting to keep the agenda simple in the car. In some ways I do to... *can I lie through my teeth in the internet?*
A lot of money is relative. I know Scott has something near $300k into Black Betty...
I completely understand about the Type R. Try a small sealed enclosure 10" that's sensitive if you don't have a lot of juice to push it. Heck, I should give you my dual 8"s to try out. I LOVE them with rock. Rage's Take the Power Back is specfriggintacular in my car.
My new piece is going to be a whole new center console that'll integrate the subs in the back and separate the rear floor with the two downfiring subs.
Biggest challenge with MY system? Being content. Figuring out how to do all these tricks that you don't see. Learning new techniques to do new things.
Favorite amps? That's a trick question. I have the three DD amplifiers that I'm currently using in competition. I've chosen those over a McIntosh 6 channel I have sitting in my garage right now. Why? More dynamic power. Do I need it? yes and no. One never knows when you're going to need an ALMS Corvette C6R on the freeway do you? :)
The amplifiers are fine just the way they are. I'm playing with trim and making the car pretty and different. It should please all the Yaris owners to know that I'll probably be the only Yaris at IASCA SQ world championships on the 22nd. :)

$300k ??? I didn't even think that was possible.
Dual 8's would be good for my kind of music.
I am definately going sealed box this time around. I have 400w RMS to work with for just the subs. ( Unless I want to buy a bigger amp, which I would rather not. ) It should be enough power to get the job done if I pick some efficient drivers and go with the correct box. As I said, my system has been fine. I've been enjoying it. I just decided to tweak it a little bit, and try to get some sound deadening going. Chassis is noisy.
If I can tighten up the bass a little, and control the noise a little, i'll be totally happy.
You know how it is, you can't leave it alone forever. ( Even me! )
Is that your trunk? What is the air system for?
You might be the only Yaris at the competition because the Yaris is probably not the best starting platform to work with.
When you said $300k for the black betty, is that the whole car, or just the audio system in it?
Any links to some pics of the black betty? I wanna check it out.

Here's an introduction to Black Betty. When Scott was shooting this, I was up in the suite cooking for his clients. Later that day when they shut down the convention hall Scott was dealing with clients and asked me to shut down the car. THAT was very interesting. I spent a little time listening...
400 Watts is fine mang. Just get a woofer or two that are efficient and into that sealed enclosure. You'll be amazed what the "feeling" is when you have woofers that combine well with your mids (and with the music as a whole).
What's in my trunk is three amplifiers, a compressor and the air tank. What's the tank for?

That's the plan. My current sub does not seem to "combine well" with my mids. My current system seems to be optimized for RAP music. It does that really well. My ported box is tuned for that stuff. I need it to be more optimized for METAL. I'm going with two Infinity Reference 1060w subs this time, in a 1.5cf sealed box. These subs are effecient ( 91db ) low power ( max RMS 275w ) and have a factory rated Xmax of 13mm. On paper, they move some air with lower power requirements. Going from a single sub to 2 should keep my SPL up, while the sealed box will tighten up my response. Very basic stuff compared to what everyone else is doing, but that's where I am at. Got six 12x24 sound dampening sheets coming too. Probably need to buy some more because I plan to do the rear hatch area as well as the doors and rear quarters. So much road noise in this little car.
What's the tank for?

Monday I'll pick up more 3/8" quick connect fittings for re-routing the air line to take stress off the bends before I hit the shop.
Oh! Love this...I somehow lost my OEM carpetting. I have no flippin' clue where it is. GREAT! That's not an expensive fix or anything...Edit...found it squirreled away in a back cabinet at teh shop. Phew!

Okay, both these pics were taken under shop halogen lighting. That trunk is going to light up big time at night when you open the trunk. That with the contrast between the black painted amps and the white paint then the LEDs...
Also that carpeted surround is just a mid panel between the rack and the top beauty panel. It's not intended to be seen, rather it hides the LED strip and the edges of the rack from direct view.
http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/ww203/sqcomp/2007%20Toyota%20Yaris%20S/a1cd1357.jpg
I also got the solid state relay installed. That is a boring detail BUT in competition you're penalized for relay noise. Whelp...a solid state relay doesn't make any noise...AND...this relay that I have has variable turn off delay. That will allow time for the components upstream to turn off before unloading current onto the amplifiers and causing pop. The back board is carpeted already and I need to move the tank location tonight and create a hole for the air line to go through the panel for a more stress free run.

What is your favorite amps now? How much farther do you need to take your system to get them to where you want them to be?
Derick, what is YOUR goal? Are you going to compete with your Yaris?
Thanks AM,
Challenge... Learning, Listening, Tuning, Understanding, Time, Money and Tools!
Favorite amp?... My old Premier (Pioneer) amp 400 watts RMS directly into my 6.5" woofer it's amazing,
but The Gold is for the Image Dynamics for the Mid-Bass (HAT L6's) at 175 watts x 2, in some songs I turn off the Sub just to show off, almost no change in the music, and people go AAAGGGHHHHH
How much further?... If I had the time and money mmm you wouldn't believe it! but reality... I would like to finish every detail, to make everything look neat!
Goals? my goals are all left behind, the more I learn and the more I'm getting from my system new Goals start to show up, It's like the never ending story.
Compete? ... you know I have many invitations, (PA, Canada, Main, etc) I would love to go, not just for competing and see where I'm, but to learn from others.
All my SQ local friends have a big respect for the little Yaris, and they look for my advice, that makes me feel good too.
Ironically the Yaris turned into a very good platform for my system, some times I dream "if I could buy any car to install a SQ system and improve what I have now!" .... I get good PLDs (9-inches) with my Mids, Tweeters are far way from me, off-axis, left tweeter is 48" away from my left ear, The Sub up front fits perfectly and I can still have a passenger, and the Lows (Mid-Bass) in the doors work ok, would like to have them further up but like you said, in a car everything it's a challenge.
I love my yaris, honestly drives so good, looks good and sounds good, I would be heart broken if I had to let it go for other car.
I'm not a fan of that sub box on the front passenger floor.
The single i6SW is not on all the floor is took to the center console leaving enough space for passenger, the 2nd i6SW is just an experiment, but I'm very pleased with only one i6SW, lately I've been playing with other woofers, and even the IDQ12 in 1cf sealed box! against the i6SW and at the end of the day, I just go back to the i6SW... Sound Quality and overall performance, any music... just throw at it and without any adjustments the system will play it beautiful. Off course this is not a SPL system so don't expect to blow your ears! or to be one of the guys that you can tell his coming blocks away!
I know exactly what you are trying to do, but that is a huge compromise.
Please expand... to me it's all about a natural sound-stage
You know how most people do it, they just overpower you with BASS so you can't really tell what direction it's coming from.
I know! As far as of today all systems I've heard like that hurt my ears and take away the beautiful letters "SQ" from my equation and no matter what... I still can tell where it's coming from "The Back"
You guys are so focused on creating the perfect "sound stage".
YES! YES! YES!
In a large open room, it's pretty straightforward. In a car... it's a whole different story.
Agree 110%
I wouldn't even want to try and tackle it.
But I guess that's the whole challenge of car audio SQ competition, isn't it.
YES! but in my case not for competition, just for pure satisfaction and joy!
When I listen to my system I forget about commuting, problems, traffic, mortgage, Milk, meetings, news, etc, etc.
Welcome back! AM and don't forget about a layer of MLV to block the road noise. Now you can buy at H.D. online at a good price!

You see the pic up there with the tank and the compressor? Turn the tank over (upside down and put the compressor on the other side. That's how it's layed out now. I've switched the air line output to keep it on the right side of the car.
...In the process I got too far ahead of myself and need to recarpet the board. The shop is closed today.
That being said, tomorrow is a busy one! I'll get some new fittings to help take the stress off the air line. I'll get the board component mounting points installed, carpet the board, put everything back up, install all of it, make the wires pretty...finalize the DRC mounting back on the modded mounting kit, install the amps, processor and stereo.
Tomorrow night I should have sound, air, and lighting. Over the next week will come the tuning. I'll try to have Bill Pleasant come down next weekend so we can two seat this heffer and get it ready for INAC. Two pairs of ears are better than one in this case.

It's not much of a picture, but the trunk can be assembled and ready in a half an hour. All wiring, RCAs and amplifiers. You see that hole where the air line is pointing to? The hose is going to go through the board at that point. That whole board is sitting up vertically when I get it in. Notice that the tank and compressor are both placed up more That'll give the amp rack more space to be seen. Those two pairs of wires will also be loomed up in black to blend in better. I still have to figure out the run path...

Got the Infinity 10's in the car today. Took it for a test run.
Initial impression: I LIKE IT.
Output seems to be about the same. Bass is cleaner and tighter, which was exactly what I wanted. Tighter kick-drum hits. Still plays really deep stuff too.
Sounds more "controlled" and musical.
The single TypeR 10 in the slot-ported box was boomy. It liked stuff like Beat Dominator, but was a little loose and muddy with rock and metal music.
The two Infinity 10's in the sealed box can do the Beat Dominator really nice, but also handles the metal stuff way better. Glad I went for the switch.
I really wasn't sure how much of a difference it would make, and whether or not it would be worth it, but it was worth it.
Only putting 200w RMS each to these Infinity's, and they are sounding sweet.
I'm sure they will get a little better once they get broken-in a bit.
NEXT project: sound deadening.
Gotta pull my interior panels back off and install the Stinger Roadkill.
I know it will help. I wish I could have done it back when I changed my speakers, but funds were tight, and I didn't really know how much difference it would make.
After living with this car for a few years, one thing is certain: it is NOISY.
The Roadkill is going to help it. Even if I wasn't ever going to do a system in it, the car still needs it!
SQ: these Infinity's are blending with my mids. I can hear a big difference.
The old TypeR was just off by itself in la-la land. My whole system sounds more "musical" now. No other way to really describe it. It's nice and clean.
Can't wait to get the Roadkill in there.

Amazing "output", but I'm sure this setup would be garbage for "response".
Yeah! that's the one, but mine lives in a smaller box with 0.35cf and a 15" long 2" Dia. port (Just what HAT recommends) and with 300 watts more.
The feeling of the music coming at you from the front feels so natural, the Bass hits my chest, not the seat, and I love it!

... in a galaxy far far away... ( as in: the early 90's )
I was checking out some gear in a local car audio shop. I was testing some subs in a truck. I tried some 10's in boxes. I tried some Bazooka tubes.
10" Bazooka tubes were too big to fit anywhere. Tried the 8", it was okay.
Then I tried two of the 6" Bazooka tubes. Bass was SWEET. Very musical and smooth. Smooth and tight at the same time. Problem was, they were not loud at all. GREAT SQ.... no SPL at all really.
I seen some Sundown Audio 8's. Them things are AWESOME.
They like the power though.
I'm definately getting more into SQ over SPL these days.
I don't listen to music that loud, and I hate boomy bass that you can hear coming down the street. I don't want that in my car.
I like clean, punchy sound IN my car. Since switching to those Infinity's, I got it. Those Infinity's are efficient. They work good with lower power.
Picked `em up for $60 each. Well worth it.
I'm sure two TypeR 10's in a sealed box would be great too, but I would need a 900w amp to push them.
So many different ways to go. Too many choices really.
I just gotta get that Roadkill in there... and then I will be happy and content.

I was on their website checking them out. Was kinda funny, because the description of the Imagine 10 was very close to the Infinity Reference 10 I just got.
Higher Xmax rating on the Imagine 10, but very similar design. Stamped basket, rubber surround, poly cone, 2" voice coil. About same power requirements.
The Imagine sub has aluminum voice coil. Infinity is copper.
I'll bet the Imagine's aren't selling for $60 though.

The 15 was sealed in the trunk. That's where it worked the best for me. Facing toward the trunk lid. I still have the glass spare tire well wenclosure as well as the pre-fab enclosure for it. At this point I'd throw them both in for free. I need space in my garage.

That's cool with me if Scott wants to get into the technical aspects of his subs. I was just curious, but it's not something I need to know.
I got started on the Roadkill job this morning, then it got too hot so I had to quit. I got the drivers door finished at least.
The plan is to tackle the passenger door this evening when the sun goes down. I'm working in my driveway. No shade or anything.
:frown:
Roadkill is easy to cut and work with, but the whole job is very time-consuming. I've got over 2 hours on this one door.
Tomorrow I plan to do the rear speaker areas. I will be using some filler-foam back there after I apply the Roadkill pieces.
I can already tell a big difference on this one door. Just giving it a "thump-test", it sounds way different than the other side which has not been done yet.
Can't wait to get the whole thing done, then take it for a cruise.
Here's a quick pic of the progress. I wasn't quite finished at this point, but you get the idea. I tried to get the stuff on the outer skin, as well as the inner skin.

Yeah, it's working great.
I just figured a pre-fab box is very boring for you. So I was making a little joke.
Truth is, I can't build a box for what these cost. So i'm just being cheap and lazy, but it gets the job done.
I want good music in my car, and I don't want to have to slave away for days or weeks to get it.
I'm not in the "custom car audio business", nor do I compete.
Custom boxes are sweet, but not necessary for me.
Another truth is... I hate having to do the Roadkill. But this car needs it, so I have to suck it up and do it.
"Road noise" is seriously getting in the way of my music.
After living with this for awhile, I decided something has to be done about it.
I would rather not have to do it, but it needs it.
I love high-end competition audio systems. But I don't have the desire to do this in my car. If the music is strong and clean, i'm happy. That's all I need.

Yeah, I can see where that could be a concern.
Out here in Arizona, it's hot and dry. I shouldn't have any issues with mold in there, but I was a little concerned about that stuff catching on fire.
I think it will be okay though.
If I lived in a colder damp climate, mold and mildew could certainly form in there over time.
As always, your insight is appreciated.

SQ: I seen your 15" in the trunk. I was going back over this whole thread earlier today. And your WALL of DD amps. That 15 was a Hertz.
Killer looking sub. I'll bet it pounded hard.
Any recent pics of your latest setup?
I also seen all the work D was doing to try and get his sub in the front of the car. Nice little enclosure he built for it.
I don't like subs up front, it costs you leg room. I'll just deal with the bass coming from the rear. Doesn't bother me at all.
Initial report from my test-drive:
Definitely quieter. It mellowed out the noise. Still a little road noise on the rougher roads, but nothing like it used to be, and almost silent on smooth roads. Love it.
Now here comes the strange part. This surprised me.
The system sounds crisper and punchier!
The whole system sounds "tighter". Not sure how to explain it.
The highs are extra crisp. The bass is tight and punchy. Very clean.
I'm sure all the "noise" was clouding the music, and now more of the music is coming through. I just didn't expect it to be that noticeable.
1st impression: I like it. It's a definite improvement. I'm glad it's DONE.

Really sweet setup. I like the Audison Bitone. Total control.
Now... you know what obvious question I am going to have for you, right?
Here it comes:
WHY do you have those ridiculously OVERPOWERED surfboard S2b amps powering those L6se's and ID8's ?!?!?
Those L6se's are rated at what, 75w RMS at 4ohms ???
You must have the gain barely cracked on those amps!
Those amps could push those driver cones right out of the baskets!
If I had to guess, I would say you are running that setup because when you barely crack an overpowered amp the signal stays PURE.
You may only be using a small fraction of the amps power, but this maintains the integrity of the signal.
Am I on the right track? ( It still seems WAY overpowered to me. )

"Sound deadening" and "Block road noise"...
Now just imagine when the proper system to block road noise comes in place.
by adding some "roadkill" to metal you start controlling reverberation, and I see you can tell the difference, also helps for a better environment to listen music.
To block road noise with roadkill you'll need at least 3 or 4 layers to accomplish what a system of combining MLV+CCfoam+roadkill would do.
keep up the good work!

I got them for the "WOW" factor really. Control, headroom what have you. If I were to change, I'd have to sell this big boys off, I'd probably go with JL Audio's HD line of amplifiers. Prolly four 600/4 amps or seven 750/1 amps (as a last resort from JL, I might go with seven XD600/1). Arc Audio has offered to put me on their team and even though I appreciate their SE amplifiers...I'd prolly pick JL over Arc. Just a choice made by observation over these last few years of the manufacturers and their representatives.
...Tomorrow night I'll have experience over my shoulder to tell me whether I'm screwed or not. I've narrowed the issue down as specifically as I can...somewhere on the harness...this is the only thing I see holding me back from having a Yaris represent at world finals.

also he had a huge Zapco amp and a JL amp. he also had Time Alignment and digital EQ
After an hour or so of playing many tracks (his and mine) he asked me to hear my Yaris...
Long story short:
1st 10 seconds... "OMG"
after 3 or 4 tracks (previouslly played in his car)... he kept turning his head to the rear and asked me... "Are you sure you don't have speakers in the rear?" ( I don't )
after 30 minutes or so... "I'm impressed your Mids are down in the kick area and stage is up there, very impressive!"

...I'm half raging and half motivated.
What was REALLY neat though regardless of what happened was what I learned about tuning from Scott. One of these days I'll share it.
The deck was taken down because of the processor malfunction. Now I have to find somewhere in the US that can fix the P-01. I'm already making arangements to fix the Bit One...it's going away though. Even if it never breaks down again, I won't have it in my car or any other Elettromedia product if I can possibly help it. Anything that busts the very day I need it is not worthy to be used in my car. Having heard the other Pro/Am vehicles...I could have won the class. That is what stings me most...
Regardless, I've already started the next steps to next season. The mids are going back up top. The tweeters are staying in the sails. Scott Buwalda said, "Get those mids back up in those pillars...NOW...". Sir, yes sir. I've already started surgery on the pillars I used to have up there. I'm expecting the pillars ready and mounted by early November. I also expect the system to be sounding off by December...P-01 or not.
I've been talking with my contacts and I'll be working closely with Zapco for processing. Also expect to see some neat custom work happening. I'll leave it at that for now.

You don't need the processor mang. After my processor took a crap we did everything we could to lower the noise floor in the P-01 that the processor's death somehow caused. We still tuned the car...under Scott's advice the stage opened up and was a lot more airy and accurate.

"In signal theory, the noise floor is the measure of the signal created from the sum of all the noise sources and unwanted signals within a measurement system, where noise is defined as any signal other than the one being monitored."
That vehicle with the supercharger and turbos is a frame off Ford GT. it's also worth around 300k...
The equipment failure didn't stop me from competing...it did stop me from placing. That being said, it took Scott 5 tries at INAC to come home with a trophy. I'll be back next year for sure...and I'm working with a known industry installer to work my special idea for the woofers. That and I've already stared modding my pillars from the 2011 season after Scott mentioned that I should move them back up there ASAP.

GAWD I'm old.
Sanding tonight. Talking with one of the best repair shops in the country about the P-01. They're having trouble finding the service manual for the "P" series decks (P-01 & P-99). I may be forced to send this back to my source in Japan. Funny...I type this sitting at a sushi bar just having finished some good Tako, Ebi & tempura...maybe I'm channeling some mojo.

^First layer of primer. Here in a few, I'll go back into the garage and sand more. Oh yeah, there is two layers of filler that went under this that I didn't take pics of. I was to busy applying and sanding. You can see in that bottom picture that there's a high point in the filler just above the mid. I'll sand that down by hand and get any other pinhole blemishes. The I'll prime agian. After this priming, I'll get some texture and go from there.
Cleaning up around the garage...I finally found my backup battery keys to my alarm. This means I can disconnect the battery and take the airbag out so that I can replace the steering wheel with a leather wrapped Scion tC piece...In a week or two I'm thinking. I'll have the new processor in by then along with the backup source.

They're at the same height but no, they're aimed about 15 degrees up from horizontal. This aiming gives me rock solid imaging and height. The tweeters in the pillars are good for width, height and worrying less about crossover points. The "blend" will be easier than with the tweeters separated as they were this year. I could have it sounding off tonight if I pleased but...I want absolute control before info this again...and with the P-01 acting all bejiggity, I'd rather not risk it.
I also put a couple layers of high build primer on the pillars as well. Lots of work gets done when I don't have a wife hanging around. The "to do" list becomes very basic and simple.
Edit: I got my paws on the service manual for the P-99RS...anyone who started this post that needs one in the future knows now where to get it and give it to a repair center if needed. My P-01 is going out the Pyramid Audio tomorrow morning. Within the month, I'll be back up working again.

I know this exercise...We don't center match in the mid and sub bass regions simply because at 175 Hz and below, the bass isn't localizing for the most part. I'd imagine this is going to change drastically when the mids are back on top. I have to make a mic jig and find a 3055 I can play with locally...
The sub however is down 9 dB
You can also see I had to pump up the output. My gains are pretty much off...I suppose I could change that though.

My guess is that you won't, but you could minimize it with Mat and more Mat and several layers of Mat...
Then last resource is... turn down the gains to mach your other speakers.

I will, but looks odd...
Inside the Pioneer world 155.39" (max number in TA) means (0) zero delay, and what I do is to delay the closest speakers to my left ear to get the signal rich both ears at the same time. That is why you see my right Mid at 155.39" and every thing goes from there.
If I had the sub in the trunk that would be the furthest speaker and will get 0 (zero) delay AKA 155.39"
0" (zero) would be like to delay at maximum the left side Mid and Mid/Bass

I'm more interested in the equalization more than the time alignment anyway. There was a huge difference between your system and mine, seeing as mine had that processor on it. The messed up thing is that every brand does their time alignment different it seems. You'll see where I go when I get the P01 repaired... And what ever processor I put in there.
I just had an offer from one of the Arc dealers and I'm still comparing with the Zapco dealer as well on the processors. We just have to see what happens after the P01 gets back from repair.

Yes, equalization had a much bigger impact than Time alignment for the...
WOW Factor!
Yes every brand does it different, took me a while to understand each method and assuming milliseconds against inches, but at some point TA had to be the same function.

10-04-2012, 11:54 AM
Mmm...there are probably several reasons why no offers.
They aren't because you're not a nice guy. The biggest reason is that these manufacturers have seen my face at CES for several years now. I suppose you could say I'm known in the industry. All of this is based on my appearances at CES really. Networking man, networking! Heck, You know that Arc audio piece the PS8? I have that in my hands last year. I saw how it worked in the demo vehicle. I saw its physical size without it's "big shroud" and yeah... I mean I had the attention of one of the players at Arc audio even though I'm not running any Arc audio gear. All of this just by attending CES and spending a few minutes talking to people and the little fact that I can cook and I was able to give people food when they were really hungry. Time and place mang...time and place.
Not only the CES factor but those people know me and they see how I support the brick-and-mortar stores. I've also been responsible for making IASCA a factor here in the Northwest again.
It's terrible but it seems like I'm playing my own trumpet here but really I'm not. It's just several factors I mentioned plus there some other factors aside from what I mentioned before. The thing is Derick, you could do the same thing.
All it is is simply time invested into the industry & face time with networking. It all started 12 years ago when I decided to work for a few months at a high end stereo shop. That's where I met Jim before he owned his first shop. That snowballed into appearances at CES and INAC finals.

^Major speaker change from last year. Unfortunately Blair didn't do as well this year at finals. His car was a killer in March.

Well...interesting results from world finals!
I'm showing you guys my class. I'm going to preempt this with the fact that the night before my processor blew up and it made my p-01 sound terrible. With all that noise the Maximum deductions are five points. That plus my tuning on the car wasn't complete, so in all honestly (and I'm not trying to be conceited or have a big ego) I think this little Yaris could have won world championships in the class.
John Fisher (USA) 227
Klifton Keplinger (USA) 225
Jason Glass (USA) 221 Tiebreaker (Tonality score)
Jim Bishop (USA) 221 Tiebreaker (Tonality score)
John Davis (USA) 220
Louis Chouinard (Canada) 217
Blair Williams (Canada) 214
Robert McIntosh (USA) 188
Shawn Beaman (USA) 187

This one is the one that really calls my attention since it's different from the others,
I know this guy it's been out there for a while, do you have more info about his install?

How many of those cars have rails on the seat? I know the HAT G has.
What I like about the G is how clever Scott B. was to set up one amp for each speaker!

I love those woofers! 4 i6SWs AWESOME!

That top car is Mark Eldridge's NASCAR vehicle. He is always a top contender... And has been for years.
What exactly are you asking about the seat rails?

How many of those cars actually have rails to move the sweet spot even further back?

Got it... Quite a few actually. I believe you can start doing that in pro-am up to up higher classes.
For the record I do not and will not do that. If I cannot make it sound perfect in the stock position all the way back or in my drivers position it's just not right to me.
Just a side note, I've been talking with Garm about some modifications to the Yaris during my deployment to Afghanistan here in early 2014. I'll be picking up the Legatia SE LE series speakers, Upgrading the train horn to a Nathan K-3LA a low profile manifold, and installing an air runner suspension on this little car.

For me the Yaris will never be a fast car or one I would want to make fast. Going the other way, being able to slam this little car to the ground appeals to me highly.
I've got to keep up with you D...somehow! :)

This video is to show you how fast is my Yaris... LOL
NO, the idea is to show how much engine noise gets into the cabin (or how much engine noise is blocked into the cabin) in hard acceleration:

Thanks, I set up the music low enough to hear it as a reference against engine noise.

Get prepared and stay safe brother.
Oh...I'm probably going to step off of Team Hybrids. I've got SO many other things to concentrate on aside from towing the team line. Besides, if I can be the fourth best sounding car in the world WITH a blown processor and a nearly dead head unit and a tune that wasn't correct...I've got my stuff right. I'm still trying to decide if I want to sell off my heavy sound equipment...
The things I need to concentrate on are partly this:
One of those things is to get my wife finished with her nursing degree program just south of you.
Another thing for me to work on is my probable deployment to Afghanistan at the end of next year.
...the last one is prepping for this:
